Traditionalists will hammer this recipe as a bit off... Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce so simple to make that Italian sailors on board ships could mix it easily. The name comes from the Italian word for sailor "marinaro." It is traditionally NOT highly seasoned, as even the most exotic versions did not contain all of oregano, garlic, and onions. Most traditional marinaras are only seasoned with fresh garlic and basil.
