cheese steak

Also called Philadelphia cheese steak after the illustrious city that's said to have originated this sandwich in the 1930s. It consists of an Italian or French roll topped by thin slices of beef, cheese (usually American) and sometimes sautéed onions.

Got to say, I live in the midwest now and really miss the high quality of real Philly cheesesteaks! I can now come close with buying WalMart's frozen sandwich steak and Aldi's new take and bake baguettes. We make 'cheese steak hoagies', with provolone, lettuce, tomato and raw onions. Ad a little oregano and you have the best you can make at home!
