This is my favorite apple is there a place to order them. I have looked for them in Utah, but they state they are heirloom only and no one grows them.

Try here. I remember growing up and these being the major commercial apples in grocery stores. http://www.virginiaapples.org/pick-your-own/index.html Google it for more possibilities!

Made home grown applesauce with these for the first time this year. Wonderful flavor and texture. Did have problems canning. The applesauce expanded and leaked out of the jars while canning(even with a 3/4 inch headspace). Jars cooled leaving 1/4 of the quart jars empty.

This is probably a late comment, but growing up in Virginia I used to get winesap apples every autumn in the local groceries. Living now in PA, I had not ever seen them locally until YESTERDAY! Found winesaps at a McGinnis Sisters market here in PA AND they were grown in PA as well. Maybe you can google McGinnis Sisters and find out if you can get those apples shipped to you. Just a thought!

Karalli's in Ashtabula, Ohio has delicious Winesap's. They taste like candy. I picked a half bushel for $8 today.
