Rarer Berries: Currants
Very popular in Europe, currants are hard to find in the US. Look for red, black or white currants at your local farmers' market.
Elderberries
Elderberries and their edible flowers are used in wines, preserves, pies and fruit soups.
Gooseberries
Gooseberries are native to Europe and Asia; they're most commonly used in jams, pies and "fools."
Huckleberries
Rarely cultivated, these berries are generally found in mid-alpine regions. They're in season June through August.
Lingonberries
Lingonberries are related to cranberries, and are featured in Scandinavian and Russian cuisines.
