Rubbed Sage

Meet rubbed sage, the most popular form of the herb.

Description

A gentle grinding and then a quick run through a coarse sieve gives rubbed sage its fluffy, scruffy, almost cotton-like appearance, which is unique among ground herbs.

Rubbed sage has a silvery gray-green color and is aromatic, with a woody, pine-edged scent and sometimes a medicinal note.

Uses

Sage is a big player in Mediterranean cooking. It’s a great match with sausages, poultry, pork, beef, lamb, and fish dishes. In the United States, rubbed sage is particularly popular during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, when it is featured prominently in turkey and stuffing recipes.

Perfect Flavor Partners

Rubbed sage pairs well with balsamic vinegar, basil, bay leaves, black pepper, cream, cheese, garlic, lavender, lemons, mushrooms, onions, oregano, rosemary, and thyme. Sage is also a good pairing partner with red wine.

I grow sage, and I dry it and use it in recipes. But did you know it also is a hair rinse. Just take the sage and boil it in hot water, after it cools a little pour on roots of grey hair for brunettes.
