I had never carved a pimpkn by myself until last year. I followed the tips and it was easy-peasy! I used a simple template to start (happy) so this year I might do something "trickier"

When my 4 kids, who are all now adults, were still at home, we started a tradition of carving up to 15 pumpkins the weekend before Halloween. Then on Halloween night, we'd cook brats and hot dogs on our grill and hand them out to all the trick 'r treaters, and their parents, with apple juice, and they all still got to pick out some candy. Sometimes we dressed up, and sometimes not, but it was always a lot of fun for everyone, and it made a neighborhood that was a little less friendly than it had been in the past seem welcoming. It was always a very enjoyable evening. I have moved from that house now, but still miss those days, and there are many wonderful memories. To this day, Halloween is a big holiday for us, and I now get to enjoy it with my granddaughter who is 6 and is really getting into the festivities. Wha pure fun!

My cousin and his wife have a pumpkin carving party about a week before Halloween each year. They actually have a contest and there are two winners who get voted on. (An adult and a child.) We always have such a wonderful time carving and just spending time with family! I am happy to say that I won last years contest for the adults with my "scary cat!" This is a great tradition and is a wonderful way to bring family (both young and old) together and laugh and enjoy the start of the fall/winter seasons!

Loved the idea about carvig alot of pumkins for halloween and cooking out. Currently, my daughter and I live in a small apartment and carved one of our two pumpkins, and it already turned to squoosh, so we are going to paint the other one with some day glo green and other funky colors. Thanks for the ideas and Happy Haunting.......... Isabella and Kimberly in KY

Every year we have a Halloween campout and everyone brings a pumpkin to carve. We do it outside on our picnic tables and then line them up to vote on the best, the scariest, most unusual, etc. We also wear costumes and have even gone around to the other campers in the campground "trick or treating!" We also watch a scary movie and make all kinds of Halloween themed foods and drinks. So much outdoor fall fun!

Halloween is always a huge occasion where I live, the historic Pullman neighborhood on the far Southside of Chicago. Last year, in anticipation of the presidential election, I carved a Barack Obama pumpkin. It was the hit of the evening! Everyone who stopped by - and there's always and impressive parade of wonderful costumes - snapped a picture. And to add to the "theme" of my front porch, two neighbors dressed as McCain and Palin dropped by and posed with my Jack O'Bama pumpkin!

This is the first year that my daughter got to carve a pumpkin all by herself. Also the first time for me to roast pumpkin seeds. What fun...I love Halloween!!
