Organizing the Kitchen

By:   Richard Kozel

Keep it tidy.

It's the busiest room in the house--cooking, eating and all-around living take place in the kitchen. Here are some tips for maintaining order.

Containment Plan

Clear, airtight containers in different sizes are a great and inexpensive way to store dry beans, pasta, flour, cookies, crackers, etc. Recycled jars with lids also work well.

Rack 'Em Up
A well-organized spice rack will save you stress and time. Label dry herbs and spices with names and dates to keep them fresh and help you avoid buying what you already have.

Stay Dry
Avoid messy drips and spills by storing bottled oils, vinegars, and similar items in plastic baskets or bins. Use storage baskets to group similar ingredients, like cereal or baking supplies.
