Movie Menus: "WALL-E"

By:   Vanessa Greaves

The fate of the world rests in the iron fist of a rusted-out hero. Sound familiar? But this one collects knickknacks and is hooked on "Hello Dolly."

Allrecipes has star-studded recipes to pair with this award-winning animated feature film.

Shh! The Movie's Starting

The humans have left the planet! In this Pixar tale of destruction and redemption, mankind's wasteful ways have reduced Mother Earth to a global garbage heap.

So wouldn't you know it, the population takes off for an extended space cruise while robots stay behind to clean up the mess.

Now, after several centuries of stacking trash, WALL-E is the last robot running. This solar-powered packrat has a pet cockroach and a taste for musical theater, but longs for more meaningful contact.

Then EVE shows up to search for signs of life.

Can the humans come home? Can the planet be saved? Can robots fall in love? Pop in the DVD and let's see.

It would be hard to find a more unlikely pairing than WALL-E and EVE. One is all goofy charm and spare parts, and the other is a sleek, sexy piece of modern design. Good thing opposites attract.

    EVE: Name?
    WALL-E: WALL-E.
    EVE: WALL-E? [giggles]
    EVE: EVE.
    WALL-E: Eeee…
    EVE: EVE.
    WALL-E: Eeee…aah.
    EVE: EVE! EVE!
    WALL-E: Eeee…va?
    EVE: [giggles]

Centuries of cushy space travel courtesy of BnL (Buy n Large Corporation) have made humans obese and apathetic as they move about in hoverchairs and take their meals in liquid form.

    Ship's Computer: Time for lunch...in a cup!

Captain: Wait, that doesn't look like Earth. Where's the blue sky? Where's the grass?

Captain: This is called farming! You kids are gonna grow all kinds of plants! Vegetable plants, pizza plants!

Where did WALL-E get all his romantic notions? By watching "Hello Dolly" with the kind of obsessive zeal shown by Trekkies, Star Wars fans, and ultra-geeks everywhere.
