Movie Menus: "Ratatouille"

By:   Vanessa Greaves

Allrecipes has movie-viewing recipes for this animated tale of a rat in a hat.

Turn down the lights and enjoy this tasty little movie, from soup to rats.

Shh, the Movie's Starting!

A rodent is the last thing you want in the kitchen of your struggling Parisian restaurant, unless the little rat cooks better than you do. And for garbage boy/accidental chef Alfredo Linguini, teaming up with a four-pawed prodigy named Remy could mean a shot at culinary stardom. It's all good as long as the secret to Linguini's new-found prowess is kept, um, under his hat.

Directed by Brad Bird ("The Incredibles") and starring Lou Romano as Linguini, Patton Oswalt as Remy, Ian Holm as scheming head chef Skinner, and Peter O'Toole as feared food critic Anton Ego.

Rave Review for Ratatouille: "the reason I wanted to make the recipe is because I saw it in the movie "Ratatouille." It didn't look like the cartoon but it was the best tasting healthy food I have ever had."

Favorite Quotes

Remy: [observing what his brother Emile is eating] What is that?
Emile: [pause] I don't really know.
Remy: You dunno... and you're eating it?
Emile: You know, once you muscle your way past the gag reflex, all kinds of possibilities open up.

Remy: Hey, I brought you something to ...
[sees Emile eating garbage]
Remy: AH! NO, NO, NO, NO! SPIT THAT OUT RIGHT NOW!
[Emile obeys]
Remy: I have got to teach you about food. Close your eyes.
[Emile obeys; Remy hands out piece of cheese]
Remy: Now take a bite of this...
[Emile snarfs the cheese]
Remy: No, no, no! Don't just hork it down!
Emile: Too late.

Linguini: Ratatouille. It's like a stew, right? Why do they call it that? If you're gonna name a food, you should give it a name that sounds delicious. Ratatouille doesn't sound delicious. It sounds like "rat" and "patootie." Rat-patootie, which does not sound delicious.

Anton Ego: You're a bit slow for someone in the fast lane.
Linguini: And ... you're thin for someone who likes food!
[Crowd gasps]
Anton Ego: I don't LIKE food, I LOVE it. If I don't LOVE it, I don't SWALLOW.
