Move Menu: "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"

By:   Carl Hanson

In this classic John Hughes comedy, Steve Martin and John Candy travel home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

For these two polar opposites, getting there isn't quite half the fun.

Shh, the Movie's Starting!

Steve Martin stars as Neal Page, a high-powered marketing man and long-distance commuter. Neal works in New York City and is trying to get back home to Chicago for a quiet Thanksgiving weekend with the family. His flight leaves at 6 p.m. What could go wrong?

For starters, there's Del Griffith (John Candy), a loud-mouthed salesman of shower curtain rings, an unditchable tagalong whom fate has thrust onto Neal's path. From the moment they meet, they are greeted by a relentless series of transportation-related calamities.

Come along on their hilarious trek though the heartland. But be sure to pack some food, it's going to be a long, strange trip.

At the airport, Neal turns down Del's peace offering of a hot dog and a beer. Tough break for Neal. Thanksgiving dinner is about to be delayed indefinitely.

    Wichita, Kansas

If your plane, like Neal and Del's, is ever diverted to Wichita, Kansas, our advice is to kick back, don't fret the delay, and let the locals prepare you a nice home-cooked meal. Let's take a peek at what Wichitans are whipping up in their Kansas kitchens.

    St. Louis

From St. Louis, Chicago might seem to be within easy grasp. But stick around for a second helping of toasted ravioli, a St. Louis specialty--distances can be deceiving.
