The research promoting eating like the peoples of the Mediterranean grows every year.

The region has an unusually high life expectancy and lower rates of conditions like heart disease. Other factors, like an increased average level of physical activity may play into those stats, but common food traditions in the region clearly match up to a healthy diet.

Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds are common in most of the cuisines. Olive oil (a “good” fat) is quintessential to the region and one of the most common ingredients.
