Making Pizza

Pizza Making, a Tasty Undertaking

Admittedly, nothing's as easy as dialing 7 digits for dinner. But homemade pizza is surprisingly simple, quick and so much more satisfying!

Pizza, Most Appealing

Making your own pizza crust is easy and fun. It requires just five simple ingredients: flour, salt, yeast, water and olive oil -- plus time for the dough to rise. Pile on toppings, toss it in a hot, hot oven, and in mere minutes, it's ready.

Saucetenance

Sauce is the soul of a pizza. It sets the stage for the delights that top it. Make a few quick sauces -- pesto, tomato, guacamole, salsa verde, barbeque or white sauce -- and create several pizzas to please everyone's palate.

Toppings Tutorial

With toppings, creativity and personal tastes really come into play. Fresh herbs, capers, caramelized onions, tomatoes, roasted peppers, garlic, jalapenos and red pepper flakes add mad flavor. Challenging cheeses, like Gorgonzola or goat, complement adventurous sauces.

please let me know what is the shortening that you add to the pizza crust, I have not yet heard of something like that or give me a substitute for shortening

Shortening is a kind of fat similar to butter and margarine, but it has a higher smoke point and more fat content. I always substitute it with butter (margarine is also an option).
