Homemade is Money Saved: Coffee Shop Treats

By:   Allrecipes Staff

Why spend money at the coffee shop when you can make all your favorites at home for a fraction of the price?

These homemade treats taste just like, if not better, than the real thing. But don't take our word for it--check out the rave reviews from Allrecipes Community Members!

Easy Iced Coffee

Submitted By: Christy Grigor

Rave Review: "Easy, tasty, and cheap! I'm all for simple, so I go for a one-cup method where I place the coffee, one packet of Splenda and water in the glass first and swirl around to dissolve, then add a generous "squirt" of chocolate syrup, swirl some more and add milk. I use 8 ounces of milk so the coffee taste isn't too strong. This would also be great with flavored syrups like vanilla, or hazelnut (they come in sugar-free options too). There's no excuse to pay money to buy iced cappuccino anymore!"

Flavored Latte

Submitted By: Mackenzie

Rave Review: "Made just as the recipe stated. Also took the suggestion of another reviewer and made a vanilla-flavored syrup and our lattes tasted just like the 'bucks version! So happy I know how to make these at home now. Oh, for anyone who doesn't know how to make the syrup, I just put some regular sugar in a bowl and fill it with enough water just to cover the sugar (about four tablespoons of sugar). Put it in the microwave for about a minute or until the sugar dissolves, then add a little vanilla extract. Delicious!"

Mango-Banana Smoothie

Submitted By: Sixx~~

Rave Review: "I am currently addicted to Starbucks' Orange Mango Banana Vivanno smoothie, but all the stores in my area are out of them so I decided to see if I could find a replacement! I'm so happy I did because this is even better! This is an incredibly delicious, flavorful drink, chock-full of vitamins and nutrients. I will definitely be making this very often! Thank you so much for posting this delicious, healthy, and simple recipe."

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Submitted By: BITTERSWEET1

Rave Review: "Okay so I never write reviews but this was an awesome cookie for even someone who is not a chef. I really wanted an oatmeal cookie that you would see out at the mall or Starbucks, so I made the cookie to recipe and spooned it by the heaping tablespoons onto my baking stone. I was a little skeptical because it was a wet consistency and I thought I bet this cookie won't rise (I have had plenty of homemade cookies that looked like a flat pancake). However, in nine minutes I had the most beautiful looking and best tasting cookie out of the oven. My kids are eating them right now and they are a hit!! Will keep this recipe permanently."

Tarragon Chicken Salad

Submitted By: Jessica

Rave Review: "I love the chicken salad sandwiches they sell at Starbucks, so I tried this recipe only I omitted the celery and added red grapes like Starbucks does and oh my God, it tasted like I bought it there! This was so good--I will be making these at home and just buy the coffee at Starbucks."
