Cooking Question: Ovens

By:   Allrecipes Staff

An answer to this frequently asked question about preparing food in an oven.

Why does it take longer to cook anything in my oven?

Unfortunately, not all ovens are created equal, and the dials used to set the temperature can be off by as much as 50 to 100 degrees. We recommend that you check your oven with an oven thermometer to insure that you are baking at the correct temperature. These are inexpensive (from $5.00 to $12.00,) and are designed to hang from the rack in your oven, giving you a more accurate reading of the temperature inside the oven.
