Hot dogs and hamburgers are all-American summertime classics.

Want to win some kid-size grins? Serve up hot dogs and hamburgers and a host of toppings, and let everyone customize to taste. For easy side dishes, go with corn on the cob and watermelon, and whip up a pitcher of icy lemonade. Summertime is all about simple pleasures, and few things are simpler or more fun than getting to eat with your hands.


Dog Days of Summer

Hot dogs are the milder evolution of sausages, but unlike sausages, hot dogs are usually packaged fully cooked. Hot dogs--aka wieners, franks or frankfurters--are generally made from pork or beef, but dogs of the non-meat variety are widely available.


Burgers

Variations on these two-fisted sandwiches are only limited by your imagination. Choose from ground meat, poultry, or veggies. Anything goes as far as toppings, and you can even change out the bun with English muffins, pita pockets, or any hearty, sliced bread.
