My grandparents were from Austria and garlic lovers. Nothing better than crushing & chopping several cloves of garlic, and adding to a seperate cup of turkey gravy. Those that want extra "zip" add spoons of this mix, with other gravy, on potatoes, turkey, dressing etc. YMMM!

Sweet potato biscuits! Finally got my grandmother to write down a recipe (I couldn't follow "add enough mashed sweets to your biscuit dough until it feels right") when I was just out of college. Now she's gone, but I make them every year, and for my sons, it's not Thanksgiving without them.

My oh My! I was brought up on two fabulous dishes and we have them both on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. I am now nearing my 80s so these are real old treasures from the 'Victorian Days'! Scalloped oysters and creamed onions! Yum!! Coming from the Bay State, home of the Pilgrims (Massachusetts), we can't celebrate without this stuff. Also, cranberries right from the bog on Cape Cod. We like having a cranberry sauce making contest, and having the spoon stand up in it while still cooking in the pan is a must!

Cocktail sausage meatballs, mincemeat pie, 7 layer salad, scalloped corn and cranberry walnut salad have to be on the table or it's not Thanksgiving. Everything else including the turkey is replaceable.

I've discovered a new substitute that's far better than any mashed potatoes. I call it root mash. Equal parts sweet potato (not yams) carrots, red potatos, celery root, parsnips with onion and garlic. Cube, boil, mash with 1 stick butter and 1 can evap. milk. YUMM-O!
