Community home page
The Allrecipes Community is a big family—you’re trying, tasting, testing, and exchanging recipes and cooking tips—all so we can find the foods we love the best. Once you find a great recipe, you might want to check out other recipes submitted by that cook.
It’s easy to locate your favorite home cooks and see (as well as taste!) what they’re cooking! The Community section of Allrecipes is divided by geographic location as well as by individual home cooks. To get to the Allrecipes Community section, click on Recipe Exchange at the top of any page, and then click on the Home tab.
How do I search for a specific geographic location on the Community home page?
There are three easy ways to search for a specific location.
- Use the Cooks by Location column on the left side of the page.
- Click the specific region of the map.
- Use the Find a Location box.
How do I use the tabs under Cook’s Profiles?
- Cooks tab shows you a list of all of the Cooks’ Profiles for a specific location—for example all the cooks in Seattle. The View All, Newest, Top Reviewers, Top Recipe Submitters, and Top Photo Submitters links allow you to slice and dice the profiles based on different criteria.
- Reviews tab shows you the latest Recipe Reviews posted by a location. You can view the Rating and Reviews and see a thumbnail description of the Reviewer. Click on the My Profile link to see more from this Reviewer (although some Reviewers might not have a Cook’s Profile).
- Photos tab shows you the photos submitted by location. The View All lets you see all the photos. The Newest link displays only the most recently submitted photos. The Recipe link displays only the recipe photos. And the Personal link displays the personal photos. Photos are listed by date posted. Each photo includes a link to the Recipes along with links to see more by this submitter.
- Recipes tab includes all the published recipes for a specific location including the Highest Rated, Published, Latest Reviewed, and Recently Saved by location.
Why is my location not listed? What can I do to get listed?
Location listings all boil down to a matter of numbers. Of course, our goal is to list as many
locations within our Community section as possible. But we need at least five active cooks
(i.e. five Allrecipes users with 40% of their Cooks’ Profiles completed) from a specific place to
create a separate page for that location. Active cooks show up simultaneously under locations
within locations, so while you might not be listed under your city, you’ll likely be listed under
your state or country. Attention! Put yourself on the map: tell the cooks in your town to create
their own Cook’s Profile!
How can I publish Location Photos and Descriptions?
Get out your camera and start waxing poetic! We’d love to have a photo and a description for every city in the world. That’s not too tall of an order, right? Send us a photo and/or a description of the local cuisine and get it published on that location’s home page for the following:
- the location where you live
- the location where you’re from
- anyplace you’ve visited
(That’s pretty much everywhere, right?)
How do I submit a location photo?
Click on the Send Us Your Photo link from the location hub to generate an email. The email displays a subject line for the city of your photo. Add the photo, and then click Send. Here are photo submission guidelines:
- Photo location. The photo should be stored on your computer in a digital format.
- Format. The photo should be in one of the file formats (in a photo title “myrecipe.jpg” the “.jpg” indicates the file format):
- Size. The photo must be at least 240x240 pixels. The photo should be no larger than 4MB.
For general photo submission questions, please view the Photos FAQs.
How do I submit a location description?
Click on the Cuisine Description Request link to generate an email. The email
displays a subject line for the city of your description. Type a description of the cuisine and town
and city in the body of the email, then click Send. Here are description guidelines:
- Write a description no longer than 1,000 characters, which is about 180 words.
NOTE: The photo and/or description will not go in your Cook’s Profile, nor will you be able to view it in your My Allrecipes account.
What am I agreeing to when I publish?
Here are the Terms for Publication. You acknowledge and agree the terms and conditions below (and do not limit in any way) the Terms and Conditions of Use, which are legally binding. By submitting this photo and/or description you agree to the following:
- Photo and/or description must be your own. You acknowledge and represent the Photo and/or description you submit is your own photo and/or description and has not been copied from other websites, cookbooks, magazines, or newspapers.
- Allrecipes can make changes. You agree Allrecipes may modify the photo and/or description you submit by making editorial revisions.
- Allrecipes can publish what you send us. You agree Allrecipes may use, reproduce, display, distribute, and make derivative works of the recipe you submit royalty-free (that is, without compensation to you) for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, and in any medium (including but not limited to web, print, film, or electronic storage devices) and may grant the same rights to third parties.
How do I request a recipe from the Allrecipes community?
You can search the more than 40,000 recipes on Allrecipes by using several different search
methods. Please refer to the Finding Recipes FAQs for help on using the search tool.
But, if you can’t find the recipe you want, you can post a recipe request by clicking on the
Recipe Exchange link at the top of any page. Click on the Request a Recipe link in the top right corner
of the page and fill out the form and click Post.
To find out if your recipe request has been answered, view your request in the list or log in to My
Allrecipes, click on Shared Items, and click My Recipe Requests.
How do I recommend a recipe for the Allrecipes community?
Please share your opinion! Recipe recommendations are a valuable part of Allrecipes. To recommend a recipe, do the following:
- Click on the Recommend a Recipe link located at the bottom of every Recipe Request.
- Fill out the form and select the recipe you wish to recommend from your Recently Viewed recipes.
- Click Post.
How do I submit a personal recipe to become a Kitchen-Approved Recipe on Allrecipes?
We’d love to publish your recipe as a Kitchen-Approved Recipe! Here’s how! (NOTE: We cannot accept recipe submission via email. Recipes must be submitted through the following process):
- Look for duplicates. Make sure your recipe isn’t already online. Search the site to see if an identical recipe is already listed.
- Submit your recipe.
- Select the My Allrecipes tab on the top right.
- Select See Complete Recipe Box.
- Select Personal Recipe.
- Enter the complete recipe using the guidelines on the right side of the page.
- Follow the prompts to enter your recipe.
- Read the agreement at the bottom of the page.
- Select Share and Submit.
- Your recipe will be live on your shared recipe box, as well as submitted to become a Kitchen-Approved Recipe on Allrecipes!
When will I see my recipe online?
Your recipe will be live on your publicly-shared recipe box immediately, as a personal recipe!
Submitting a recipe online to become a Kitchen-Approved recipe sends the recipe directly to
the Allrecipes database. It does not post directly to our site. That’s because each
Kitchen-Approved recipe goes through an editorial review process to ensure consistency and
usability. Because we receive so many recipe submissions, it might take several months to
post yours—and they are posted on a seasonal basis. Please also note not every recipe is
posted as a Kitchen-Approved recipe. You will be able to send the link of your Shared Personal
Recipe to your family and friends, and other cooks will be able to find it via your public
recipe box.
How can I Review and Rate recipes?
Share your valuable opinion (and great sense of taste!) by rating and reviewing a recipe. The
ratings/reviews on Allrecipes are a valuable resource to our community because they show how the
members and their families feel about a recipe. Does the recipe get raves—or does it never get made
again? Your opinion counts. Our staff monitors reviews on a daily basis. NOTE: You must be a
registered Allrecipes member in order to review/rate a recipe. Here’s how:
- Click on the Review/Rate This Recipe link to the right side of the photo on the recipe page OR you can rate and review recipes from your Recipe Box. Select the Rate It link next to the recipe title in your Recipe Box.
- Rate/review the recipe using the following guidelines:
- Make and taste the recipe before you review or rate it.
- Keep reviews focused on the cooking and eating experience.
- Don’t add links to other sites.
- Don’t add comments about other reviewers.
- Be specific. Good reviews are great. And bad reviews are just as valuable. Just make sure you use appropriate language. If you encounter an inappropriate review, please report it to the staff of Allrecipes.
What is the difference between a Kitchen-Approved, Personal Recipe, and Custom Recipe?
All recipes are great recipes!
Kitchen-Approved recipes are recipes from our members that have passed through our editorial process—they have been put into our format and database and their nutrition information has been calculated by our cooking experts.
Personal Recipes are recipes from members which have not gone through the Allrecipes editorial process. In many cases, they have not been reviewed by the Allrecipes staff.
Custom Recipes are customized versions of Kitchen-Approved recipes, which have been altered and saved by a Supporting Member of Allrecipes.
