Dried Beef Cheese Ball

We've used a similar recipe for years but I misplaced it and used this one recently. I left out the MSG and added a little garlic powder. It's great with wheat thins!

Sausage Flowers

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
I made these for New Years; it made a TON of them and there was really no good way to keep them warm for the length of the party. We used a sterno steam tray (with heated water under food pan to keep it warm) but I found that the flowers got pretty soggy. I think that I would halve the recipe next time and perhaps change it to a taco concept using ground beef, taco seasoning and much of the same other ingredients as listed here for the sausage flowers.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
This was an OK dip but it had way too much tahini in it for my/my guests' taste. I think that had we cut it back to just 1-2 tbsp, it would probably have been great.

Chicken Scampi II

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2003
This was the BEST! I used chicken thighs so it took a little longer to cook. A delicious seasoning blend! I used garlic butter in place of the regular butter just to give it more of a garlicky taste. I even made shrimp scampi the next night using this recipe! I can't rave about it enough! It's just terrific!Try it you'll see.....

This recipe was amazing! The only thing I changed was using cilantro instead of oregano and I also doubled the lime for more tang. Amazing! I made it for my very picky Dad and he loved it!

Amazing! I live in Alaska and it was 15 degrees outside when I put the mushrooms on the grill-and it was totally worth it! Spicy and savory, a must for summer entertaining!

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2002
This is definitely a great veggie side dish! I made it for a dinner party and it was a hit! You can't go wrong if you follow all the instructions exactly. Using a shallow roasting pan is a must, along with frequent stirring. I'd also like to add that spraying the roasting pan with a non-stick spray prevents all the sticking that happens in the later stages of cooking.

Spicy Party Pretzels

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2001
I may have done something wrong, but my pretzels burned in the oven after about 40 minutes. Every time I opened the door to stir the pretzels, my eyes watered! I ended up tossing the whole project out. It might have been an oven problem so make sure your oven is correct before setting out to make these. They sounded good; if they hadn't burned, they probably would have been...

Easy Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2001
This is a nice recipe although I would cut down on the amount of tahini; I found that it had a little bitter after taste that wasn't exactly what I was aiming for. It was well received by the adults at the party but virtually every kid turned their nose up (as kids are apt to do!).

Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2001
The spring rolls recipe as published was OK but I couldn't help doctoring them up to make them outstanding :-)! I used napa cabbage, frozen tiny steamed shrimp (canned is yuckky), and matchstick carrots. I also added shredded poached chicken breast, matchstick red peppers and cilantro. I didn't measure these but just threw in what I had -- that's the beauty of these: experiment! For dipping sauce, I used hoisin sauce, Thai sweet chili sauce and a soy/ginger sauce. The recipe made almost 50 spring rolls and they disappeared from the platter in less than 10 minutes at my brother's wedding reception! By the way, I made these the night before, laying them on a platter scattered with shredded napa cabbage. I covered them with damp paper towels and then shrouded the whole thing with foil. They were PERFECT the next day!

Jezebel Sauce

This was a great addition to a wedding reception! Had a hard time finding pineapple preservers so substituted apricot pineapple jam and it worked fine! You may want to halve this recipe because it makes a ton -- I had enough sauce for 2 plates of spread!

Bacon Water Chestnut Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2001
I used this recipe for a wedding reception and it was a hit. Made these changes: used whole (not halved) waterchestnuts, used 1/3 strip of bacon to wrap each piece (didn't need toothpicks to hold together). I also substituted 1/4 cup hot sauce for the chile sauce. I turned them mid-cooking so that they would evenly brown. They were very good!

Artichoke Bruschetta

Yum! Yum! YUM!!! This was sooo good. I made it for a potluck at work and everyone was raving about it! I followed the recipe exactly, plus added 1 clove of garlic, 1 totamo, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and then sprinkled parmasean on top. I put all of it in a big bowl and put garlic bagel chips around the bowl for everyone to dip instead of putting it on the bread. Great recipe! Will make over and over! Thank you!!!
