Tangy Turkey and Swiss Sandwiches

These are FANTASTIC. The only change I made was to cut down on the thyme, added cranberry sauce and cooked on my George Forman grill. They were very quickly devoured. Will make these often!

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
I wish I could rate this with more stars, it definately deserves it. I made this for the first time this Thanksgiving and this pie was a definate show-stopper. One of the guests at dinner commented that it was like the creamiest fudge he ever had and it was in a pie shell to boot. I did not change one thing on this recipe other than to decorate the top of the pie with pecan halves. This is definately worth making, absolutely delicious as written with no substitutions whatsoever! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Very, very nice! If you want to spice it up just a bit, try adding about a quarter cup of chopped, crystalized ginger (the dry kind, not the kind in syrup) to the filling. I mix it in, but you could also just sprinkle it over the filling before you roll the cake up (but it is a little sticky this way). Because I REALLY like ginger, I also add about 1/4 tsp of dried ginger to the cake batter - I know is doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference, but it just adds that little bit "extra". Have a happy Thanksgiving all you wonderful cooks out there!

Very good..I omitted the vinegar, but that's just my taste. Also, I didn't add salt. The hot sauce is salty enough for me. Very good recipe, thanks for sharing it!

Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I made this last night and it was so good! I cut the recipe in half as it was for just me. The only thing I added was some crushed red pepper flakes into the bread crumb mixture and also to the egg-oj mixture to spice it up somewhat...other than that this is a fantastic recipe just as written! I just like a little heat with my food! I will make this a regular on my menu...thank you for a great recipe!

Colleen's Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
Very tasty, but as other reviewers have said, very watery. I only used 1/2 c broth, but I think next time I would leave that out, and only add it if it looked dry towards the end of the cooking time (like when adding the shrimp). The flavor also seemed a little "flat" - next time I will use 3 tsp Cajun seasoning to see if that resolves the issue (it was plenty spicy, just missed a little "oomph"). I used boneless thighs, as it seems to me that they tend to do better with the longer cooking times required when using the slow cooker; I added uncooked shrimp at 7 hours and turned the heat to warm, and even then, the chicken was a little overdone to my taste (something to do with the texture), so next time will add the shrimp and turn to low at 6 1/2 hours. I used Creole Seasoning (from this site), served the jambalaya over rice, and served Homestead Cornbread (also from this site) alongside, with fresh fruit as the salad. Very nice on a rainy, blustery evening.

Savory Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

I jsut got done eating these and they are phenominal! I used a mucato wine because I thought the slight sweetness would compliment the crab and it did! I also used an Italian cheese blend, but just a great recipe overall!

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
I know this recipe has a ton of great reviews, but I have to add mine in as well...I don't know as I will ever do a turkey breast in the oven again! This is phenominally moist and delicious. I cooked on high for 5 hours to cut down on cooking time and it even got a touch of brown on it. I can't say enough good things about this amazingly simple and delicious recipe!

I just got done making this and it is fantastic. In reading the reviews, I did alter slightly by adding dijon mustard into the honey and I used some bread crumbs in the flour mixture with some cayenne. I will be making this recipe on a regular basis from now on...thanks for a super recipe!

Licorice Caramels

I love licorice and have been looking for a long time for a good recipe. If fact, it has been hard to even find a recipe. This one is awesome. I increased anise to 1 Tbsp because I like a stonger flavor. Thank you so much for this fantastic recipe.

Banana Banana Bread

I made this and it was wonderful. I don't bake mine in the oven though, I use a slow cooker and cook on high for about 2 1/2 hours and turn it off and let it cool all the way. I also glazed with a cinnamon glaze..powder sugar and cinnamon with a splash of rum extract...super good!

Quick and Easy Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
I made this the other night and it was super yummy! I read the reviews and added diced green chiles, and taco seasoning and about a tablespoon of hot sauce and it was so flavorful and good. I charred half of the tortillas and didn't with the other half, I didn't notice any difference, I did notice that charring adds a good depth of flavor to this dish though and so I would recommend doing that. Thanks for a great recipe!

Kraut Bierocks

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
Being from an old German family, I grew up eating these. But my mom made them differently. First, she never used sweet bread. She used a white bread recipe. I noticed some had problems cutting the cabbage. I cut the head in fourths then core each piece; lay a piece on its flat surface and with a sharp knife slice very thin slices starting at a pointed end. Also we never used mustard in these however I think it tastes good in these. Mom and now myself, will usually bake half of these and in a cast iron skillet heat about one inch oil till about 350 degrees. And put in two to three at a time. Brown one side then flip and brown the other. Healthy? probably not but it sure tastes good. Overall I think this is a pretty good recipe just not authentic like I am used to. My parents were also Volga Germans and even among them, there are very many variations. But, I am looking forward to trying this version.

Sourdough Starter

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
This may be a 5* recipe...since this is the only starter I've ever tried I can't say for sure...but I do know that for the first couple months that I kept up with it it worked great. Working 60-80 hrs per week for 5 months killed my starter just when it was getting good...I really should start some more...Also I was feeding mine whole wheat flour it was workin beautifully.

Dairy Free Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
Like others I increased the sugar to 1/3 cup and I followed the microwave directions someone else had discovered of 1 min stir another min stir, another min stir, 20 sec, 20 sec (at that time it didn't change any so I called it done) and stuck it in the freezer to quick chill. Taste was there...but unlike store bought puddin cups it had kinda a rubbery texture...but the flavor was there...IDK if reducing the amount of corn starch would fix the rubber problem?
