East Indian Split Pea Pilaf

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
I was hoping for a more pronounced split pea taste, so next time I'm going to use more peas instead of rice. Maybe 1 cup of each. It smelled great and tasted very good, perfect for a side dish with Indian chicken.

Sophie's Zucchini Bread

This is a pretty good recipe although it seems to be missing something. I am not an accomplished cook however, so I dont know what it is missing. Overall the bread is pretty good just not memorable.

Mac and Cheese Henwood Style

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
This recipe asks for four ounces of macaroni. Four ounces is about a cup. The amount of sauce this makes is WAY too much for one cup of pasta! Luckily I made 8 ounces, thinking this was going to be a problem. It was creamy, but I couldn't taste the blue cheese at all! It needed garlic too, I thought. If the measurements were right, then this would be a nice, creamy pasta but save your blue cheese for something you can taste it in! My favorite recipe is still Mom's Macaroni and Cheese (submitted by Maria Costello).

Easy Polenta with Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I made this with "World's Best Pasta Sauce!" I layered this like lasagna: polenta, mozzarella, sauce, polenta, mozzarella, sauce, and topped it off with a final layer of polenta. I cooked it the next night for about 30 minutes (uncovered) since it had been in the fridge. It was very good!

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2009
I should've read the most useful reviews! I used this recipe with the "Butter Flaky Pie Crust" from this site, and it was too much for my regular pie plate. It actually was so watery; it went above my pie crust and underneath it! I thought the quiche was ruined for sure! Baked it for 50 minutes and it turned out great, though I'm sure the crust would've tasted better had I not filled it so much. Subbed blue cheese for the feta, and next time I'll use half the milk it calls for.

Pork Stroganoff

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
Delicious! Use a dijon type mustard and add some extra sour cream. I also deglazed the pork juices with a little white wine before adding the onions and mushrooms. I also added some pepper. I didn't cook it for an hour only about 30-40 minutes and it turned out perfectly.

These are the best burgers ever! I love how the brown sugar makes it taste. I like spicy so I add more cajun seasoning but otherwise don't change a thing!

Sour Cream Banana Coffee Cake

I doubled everything, which is essential if you want it to fill the bundt pan better. Next time I'll use brown sugar instead of white in the center, but otherwise this came out very nice!

Sicilian Garlic Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
I doubled this recipe, and then put it over 16 ounces of pasta. I too felt I wouldn't like it cold, so it simmered on the stovetop until the rest of dinner was ready. It smelled great, so I had high hopes! It did not disappoint, it was awesome! Such a nice change to have the nuts in the sauce too! I am looking forward to leftovers tonight!

Baked Zucchini Chips

I sliced these very thin, and added garlic powder and doubled the parmesan cheese. I baked for 10 minutes on one side, flipped them, and then baked them for another 10. I broiled them at the end too to make sure they were crispy.

Cowboy Bake Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
This was the first recipe from this site that I didnt really like. I was looking for something with the consistancy of baked beans but this recipe came out more like chili con carne. I took these on a 5 day campout with a total of 7 people and there was still probably half the pot left over at the end of the trip. Not bad but not a big hit since there were other items there that were gobbled up the first day

Made these the other night with my own sauce though (we don't do sweet sauce) I made them exactly as written and hubby raved. I liked them too. The parm makes them very filling and with the fresh oregano, they look pretty too! Will definitely make again. ;')

Crock Pot Portobello Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I wasn't real fond of this. Maybe it was the dressing. I used wishbone light itallian and it all came out tasting very vinegary. I may try it again but definately pick your dressing wisely. Perhaps a cheesy itallian with less vinegar in it.

This is a very easy and tasty recipe. I am just a beginner when it comes to cooking but I was able to make this and it turned out nice. The only thing I didnt like was the crumbles on top that are too sweet for my taste.

Roasted Beets 'n' Sweets

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Well, the verdict is still out on whether I like beets. But this was interesting, to say the least. I liked the flavor of the roasted beets, just wasn't sure about the texture. And since I wasn't sure how soft they should be, I think I overcooked them a bit. Before serving, I crumbled a little bit of fresh goat cheese on top, which made this dish awesome, with melty goat cheese, how can one go wrong?
