Hamburger Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
As it's written, I would give it no stars because the onion soup mix has MSG in it, which gives me a wicked migraine! So I had to modify it a bit, but my husband and I give the resulting soup 5 stars. My kids are insane and didn't like it, which is weird (they aren't that picky). I doubled the recipe (6 of us), and used 2 lbs ground beef, 4 cups chicken and 4 cups beef broth, and 8 cups water, 2 T of dried minced onion and 2 tsp onion powder (which I mixed into the ground beef while it was browning), 4-8oz cans tomato sauce, 4 stalks celery, a bag of stir fry veggies (it's all I had), and tri-colored rotini pasta. Once it was cooked, we added lots of shredded cheese. It has an excellent flavor! I have no doubt the original recipe tastes good too, but I'm not going to risk a migraine to find out. I'm going to use "normal" veggies next time and see if they kids like it better (I doubt it'll change the flavor much, just look more normal to them!).

French Bread

Made this last night for dinner. So very good and easy I may not ever buy French Bread again! Followed the recipe exactly, 'cept didn't add water to the egg white and only applied it once. Makes 2 huge loaves!

Tangy Poppy Seed Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
This recipe should be titled "Fresh Pineapple" Salad. I took this to a family gathering & it was a hit. Used Fresh Pineapple, didn't have any fresh strawberries, but did use fresh oranges, red and green grapes sliced in half, & Kiwi. Did not add extra pineapple juice, used fresh squeezed lime with lime zest mixed with slightly heated honey, cooled before adding to fruit. Did not add Poppy seeds, didn't need it. This recipe is a keeper for a fresh non-typical fruit salad.

Famous Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
Tender and flavorful. I used only 2 eggs and still had more than half left, so will only use one egg next time. Also, had lots of leftover Ritz crumbs, so will use 1/2 as much next time. I let it broil for about 5 minutes to improve the appearance and crunch factor.

Vegan Curried Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
Yes it's spicy, but it was really good, there are no complaints here. I thought it needed some veggies in it, so next time will add some chopped onion, peas and grated carrot, or anything else I can find. I did add more water then called for because it was gone before the rice was cooked all the way.

Black Bean And Corn Salad II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
I'd give this 10 stars if I could. The fresh lime juice makes it wonderful, plus I added some lime zest to it just for fun. Didn't have a red pepper, didn't feel like substituting a green pepper, so left it out, but it was so yummy I didn't miss it. Try this recipe, you will like it. Even my picky eater loved it.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
The cookie dough was the best, could have eaten it by the spoonful!. The baked offering needed more sugar as it wasn't sweet enough to compliment the peanut butter and chocolate. This is a soft cookie, not chewy.

Old-Fashioned Frozen Vanilla Custard

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
I put this in my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. Used 1 cup skim milk and 2 cups cream, 1 cup sugar (probably didn't need the extra 1/3 cup of sugar, but still ok) didn't whip the cream, just added it into the custard mixture. Chilled the cooked mixture overnight in the fridge. So creamy and smooth. Will use this recipe again.

Flourless Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
Need a Chocolate Fix? Here it is! Hubby wanted Chocolate cake for his Birthday, and this is what he got. I used 3 cups semi sweet chocolate chips instead of the bitter sweet squares, put it in a Spring Form pan, didn't put it in a water bath, and it still turned out melt in your mouth yummy! I don't think you can ruin this recipe. Very rich. Don't frost, don't even sprinkle with Powdered Sugar, doesn't need it. I made home made vanilla icecream to go with it. Perfect. Top with a few fresh raspberries and it's Heaven!

Pear and Blue Cheese Salad

This was just as good as I had hoped it would be. The dressing is enough for double the salad. Don't put it on too soon as it tends to wilt the salad if not served right away. A real keeper!

This was my very first time making baklava. It took a little while, but so well worth the wait. YUMMY!! I took some to work and they raved about it! I am so excited to have this recipe and it does freeze well - I had to do that so I wouldn't eat it all in one night.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
Excellent! I just made these, they are still warm. I'm out of wheat germ, so I omitted that. I used whole wheat flour, canola oil and golden raisins. I added applesauce, and maybe a 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips. My very, very, VERY pick 4 year old, who has like 4 foods he eats, is eating these up! Next time, I will use 1/3-1/2 cup brown sugar, it's a little too sweet for me, but still very good!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2009
These are the best Blueberry muffins ever. The crumb topping is the key. I doubled the recipe and got 24 regular size muffins, and that was filling the cup to the top. Next time I won't fill too high, because it gives the topping no place to go except the top of the pan and get's too dark while cooking.
