this is a good recipe. i made this by hand and substituted honey for mollasses. i'm just not a big mollasses fan. i also left out the orange zest because i didnt have an orange handy. makes a nice breakfast toasted with cream cheese. :D

Pat's Baked Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
An absolute hit! My husband requested baked beans for dinner, and I lost my grandma's recipe. This was the closest resemblence to it, so decided to give it a try. I halved the recipe, and used dry small red beans and dry pinto beans that I had cooked the day before. My children (which are the absolute most picky eaters in the universe!) asked if they could have seconds!!! That is unheard of with my kids! My husband also loved them! I will DEFINITELY be making these again!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

Best Stovetop BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
This was AMAZING! I quadrupled the marinade as well as adding a 1/4c molasses. I didn't have A1 either, so I used 1/2 c bbq sauce and 1/4 vineagar instead. I marinated this for 18 hours in a ziploc bag, and then cooked them on the stovetop ofr approx 2 hours. They literally fell of the bone! My hubby insisted they were better than any restaurant ribs he's ever had!

Cherry Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
The filling for this pie was absolutely heavenly! I used strawberry filling instead of cherry because its what my hubby prefers. I would have given it a 5 star rating except I wasnt too thrilled about the crust. I think next time I will stick with a graham cracker crust. Definately simple though, and delicious!

Zopf

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
This is a good recipe except that its lacking salt. i added 1 1/2 tsp of salt and it came out nice. i,ve made zopf twice before and it always had salt in the recipe. not sure if the salt was accidently left out in this recipe or not but i definitely prefer salt in my bread. without it it lacks taste and is bland. but thats me. thank you for the recipe.

Bird Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
these were good. i used peppercorns for the eyes and didnt use the almonds for beak just formed a little beak myself with the dough. used and egg yolk and brushed it on part of the rolls to make it look like feathers. thanks, cute recipe.edit:i had no problem working with the dough in this recipe but if your dough is to sticky just add a little flour at a time and if its too dry just add a little water, (i use a spray bottle and mist the dough a few times) till it becomes workable for you. adding a little flour or water wont hurt the recipe, i do it all the time.

Basic Sweet Dough

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
very good. i halved this recipe. used butter instead of the shortening and used one packet of instant yeast. after it rose i deflated and rolled it out like you would when youre going to make cinnamon rolls. then spread a layer of cream chease (8oz)that was mixed with 2 T of sugar and 3/4 to 1 tsp of vanilla extract. then on top of that layer i spread some raspberry filling i had made by putting 2 cups frozen raspberries, 2 T lemon juice 1/3 cup sugar and 1/3 cup corn starch in a saucepan and simmer for 15 min. then let cool completely. rolled it up formed into a ring then made cuts with a knife 3/4ths of the way to the inside of the ring. let rise and sprinkle with streusal topping and cook till golden brown at 375. you can do anything with this dough! thanks

Pumpkin Yeast Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
i made this in my kitchenaid. used instant yeast, upped pumpkin to 1 cup and decreased the water to 2 T. this worked for me but you may need more or less water to make your dough workable.i then added everything but half the flour and mixed on speed 2 with the paddle attachment while adding rest of the flour in slowly. when everything is incorporated i switched to dough hook and kneaded on speed 4 for about 7 minutes. let rise in a greased bowl till doubled then shaped into a pumpkin. let rise until doubled then egg glazed it scored it from top to bottom to resemble the lines on a pumpkin.then added poppy seeds to the scores to make the lines stand out. my kids loved it. forgot, i used butter instead of margarine.EDIT: just wanted to give an idea of how i shaped this. first i cut off a small handleful of dough for the stem and rolled it into a cylinder then twisted it a little. then took remaining dough and shaped into a tight round. i then took my rolling pin , which has no handles and pushed it into the center of the dough till it touched the counter. it makes a little well for the stem to fit in. the dough will eventually rise and the stem will be sitting up high. stick the stem inside the well and let dough rise. i hope this helps..not the best person to explain things :)

Virginia Clise Bread

scaled this down to a fourt. used 2 tsp of yeast. 1 1/2 cups water,1/8 cup sugar, 1/4 cup shortening. 1/2 tsp salt. and 3 1/2 cups flour. if it's too sticky just add in a little more so it's workable. i added the water to my stand mixer and sprinkled in all the yeast and sugar and proofed for 10 min. till foamy. then added shortening and flour and mixed till incorporated. let that sit for 20 min. then added in salt and kneaded till smooth. followed the rest of the instructions as written. yum

Chicken Pot Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
This was the best pot pie i've ever made. i made some changes though. i added a chunk of onion, couple cloves of garlic and a fresh thyme sprig when cooking the chicken in the broth.then strained the broth. i didn't have any frozen mixed vegetables so just used about a cup and a half of chopped fresh carrots insteadand sauteed them with the onion and celery. I also added 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme instead of the dried. one more thing i did was saute some fresh chopped mushrooms in a seperate pan and added them in as well. it was very good!! thanks.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
Giving 4 stars because I did it totally different but used this recipe as a base. My husband can't eat beef and I was craving a pot roast. I used a pork roast instead - which I seared with a garlic powder/black pepper crust before placing in slow cooker, replaced water with cabernet, added carrots, pearl onions and baby portabella mushrooms. Cooked on low for six hours and then added really well-scrubbed whole red potatoes - I found a bag of perfect little ones - and cooked for another 2.5 hours. Perfection. Served with lightly steamed green beans and garlic crescent rolls.
