About me:
The #1 feature of all recipes.com that I find the most useful is the ingredients search. I enjoy shopping in gourmet food stores and will pick up interesting items that I can usually find a recipes for here. I've been a professional cake decorator for 20 years and own Custom Cakes. I work out of a licensed kitchen in my home creating wedding cakes, special occasion cakes, and baked goods. I enjoy gourmet dishes, but my family prefers more of a "meat n' potatoe" flare, so I became a representative for a international company called Demarle at Home where I put on cooking classes using their "Flexipat" products, cookware, bakeware, and kitchen accessories and cookbooks. Demarle is most famous for the Silpat and Roul'pat. Contact me if you are interested in their products or the business.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by KymInNM
This was very good and flavorful. The rosemary in the bread makes all the difference. I love the texture of the bread as it mixes with the dressing and juice from the veggies--slightly chewy and very substantial. Next time, I'll add more veggies; the bread-to-veggie ratio as prepared was a bit heavy for my taste.

Red Pepper and Fennel Bulb Salad

Reviewed on Sep. 27, 2008 by KymInNM
This was a very good combination of flavors. The peppers and fennel (I used the whole bulb) added a nice sweetness. I used homemade soy/sesame/tarragon vinaigrette, which added a yummy zing (I think some type of acid is necessary; otherwise the salad would just taste like soy sauce). Next time, I'll double the peppers.

Okra Gumbo

Reviewed on Sep. 27, 2008 by KymInNM
This was good, but it seemed like it needed something to spice it up, so I added cayenne and Cajun seasoning. I also topped it with hot sauce. There apparently is no file powder to be found in NM; maybe it would have added the flavor that was lacking. I used fresh tomatoes and okra, and I added a bit of water so it wouldn't be too thick. I'd make this again.
