Cranberry Orange Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
This was just okay in my opinion. I followed the recipe as written and found it to be a little cakey and kind of boring. My husband thought it was like banana bread with cranberries. I will probably not make it again.

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
Yum! I found 6 frozen cube steaks at our local Grocery Outlet for less than $4. They were perfect for this recipe. Followed the directions except went a little light on the hot sauce. Our entire family loved it. They only suggested that I use garlic in the gravy. Will do that next time, and there WILL be a next time! Thanks smylpurty for a great recipe!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
I thought this pie was fine, not great. I did add 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg. It is very syrupy and so although it tasted good & looked lovely, it was a little too wet for my taste.

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
Excellent! I added BBQ sauce since I didn't have any liquid smoke. I used white wine vinegar instead of red wine for the same reason. I used steaks that I needed to get out of the freezer. Probably due to the cut of meat, I had very little fat in the sauce. This was very good and went especially well with the creamy coleslaw I found on this website.

Creamy and good, especially on a BBQ beef sandwich. I used a bag cole slaw mix. Still worked great.

Pork Medallions

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2009
This was excellent. My husband called it resturant quality. I doubled the gravy portion of the the recipe as called for in prior reviews. I also used poultry seasoning as I couldn't find savory. I marinated the meat in a mixture worchester sauce, shiraz, poultry seasoning, & a herb mixture my uncle makes. It was so moist and yummy.

Coffeebar Chai

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
Yum yum yum yum I am in love. I added on an extra cinnamon stick and some ground cinnamon, as well as fresh ginger root. Had to omit the cardamom because I didn't have any. Left out the milk because I was planning to use this as a chai concentrate that I can refrigerate for later use. Soo good. Thanks for the recipe. Also, some advice for optimum enjoyment: FIRST, boil the water, then steep the tea bags REMOVED FROM HEAT for about four minutes. Remove the bags, return to heat, add remaining ingredients, bring that to a boil, and then simmer for at least fifteen minutes. No need to ruin the tea by making it too bitter!

Creamy Chicken and Rice Soup

This was good. My rice didn't cook all the way but that was my fault. It tasted a lot like Captin Jack's Corn Chowder that I make, just with out the corn. My kids all ate it so that is always a plus!

Pomegranate Feta Salad with Lemon Dijon Vinaigrette

Very tasty. I already had all these ingredients, save a few. I used spinach and romaine. I also kinda made the emphasis on dijon for the dressing, which came out pretty yummy. I also put avocado and fresh orange tomato. it was gooood

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
I rated this 4 stars as written, but it gets 5+ stars when following the advice of others by adding panko to the freshly grated parm topping then baking in the oven at 400 for 15-20 minutes. It's fantastic and was a huge winner with all in my family.

Super-Good Oatmeal

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
Good ingredients, but a word of advice: DO NOT microwave oatmeal. It is an amazing food that can do wonderful things, but a microwave will zap nearly all the nutritional benefits. SLOW COOK your oatmeal. It will be tastier, creamier, and much, much better for you.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
The weather here cooled way down-went from 95 to 55 in one day-so I decided to get away from the BBQ and try this mac & cheese casserole. Great combination of flavors! Make sure to pay attention to the quantities in the receipe- 8oz of pasta not 12 oz and you will come out allright. Also add a can of evaporated milk & a teaspoon of dry mustard powder. Top with panko crumbs mixed with a 1/4 cup parmesan. Make sure to use good quality local cheeses and don't worry about the fat. Savor the moment!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
This pie was good, but a little to "eggy" for my family. To avoid the crust being overdone, I baked it on the lowest rack, this helps the bottom of the pie to not be soggy, and keeps the top from browning too much. Reading the reviews, I think it would be a very good base for adding Coconut, for a Coconut Custard pie. I will say the texture was very nice and smooth, but just couldn't get beyond the "eggy" taste.
