Thai Curry Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
Amazing - incredible - delicious - wow. This is my favorite recipe on this site so far, both for the fact that I followed it almost exactly and that it turned out incredibly like the 'authentic' versions I've had before. I can see this becoming a regular part of my routine. The best part is the fluidity with the veggies and meat. You can really change it up, but I would recommend keeping the base consistent. Thank you Kaeli!!!

Cream of Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
This was very good, but after lots of changes: 4 large tomatoes, peeled, celery seed and basil, and only 1 3/4 c milk. Also pureed the veggies after cooking and added all back to pot. Could have used more tomato flavor - next time I'll probably use 6 or even 8 tomatoes.

My Navy Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
This doesn't have to be such a long process - if you don't want to soak the beans overnight, instead boil for one hour. I did this and then cooked in my slowcooker on high for 3 1/2 hours - we still like them a bit firm w/ more broth, but another hour and it would be a good thick consistency a lot of folks like. Delicious flavor with a few cubes of chicken boullion.

Slow Cooker Chili II

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
This turned out very good after 3 hours on high in the crockpot. My husband loved it - added a bit more chili powder and called it good - but I thought it lacked a certain something... next time I might try more spices.

Hamburger Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
Without mad seasoning on my part, this would be a 2 or maybe 3 star recipe. Even if you season the meat while cooking as I did, you'll still need to add about 1 tsp salt and a 1/4 tsp pepper to the final product - cook a bit longer for the flavors to meld, a dash of garlic and it's golden. This is a good base recipe, but "salt and pepper to taste" as called for in the recipe is just not accurate, unless it's a cook watching sodium intake or just doesn't care for an average amount of flavor in their dishes.

Cream Cheese Won Tons

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
These are very tasty, pretty much just like those I get at my favorite thai restaurant. The best part is, you can alter things according to your taste. It's hard to mess up cream cheese, and you can add/subtract according to your taste for the rest. We used the same seasonings and water chestnuts but substituted a bit of shredded canned crab, and they were delish. I think next time we'll try the baking method - these were SO good but of course not as healthy, and it stinks up the house for a while. Don't know why sesame oil tastes so good but smells so bad when cooking. Enjoy!

very disappointing. Not enough beans or potatoes; although the base was on the edge of tasty, altogether a very "blah" soup.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
The best stew recipe I've been able to find here. I always season the meat first then coat in flour before searing for a couple of minutes on each side. This really helps lock in the moisture and makes for a super tender end result.

Poached Orange Pears

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
I used 1.25 cups oj and .25 cup rum - could probably have even gone 2 parts to 1 part rum. Also, had to poach for closer to 35 minutes, and this was with quartered pieces small pears. Overall, delicious!

Cranberry Orange Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
This was fabulous but I think it needed a little more sugar. I used frozen cranberries, but I ran them through the blender to chop them up first and it worked great. I also added some orange extract and a little water, but I think I would add even more next time. They were delicious, though.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

I really enjoyed making this pie as it was quick and easy. I don't eat pie, but I love baking and when I made this for Thanksgiving, it got rave reviews from my friends! I did take the other reviewers advice, though, and I added cinnamon... which I pretty much add to everything! LOL Thanks for the great recipe.

Don't over-think it - these are easy to make, tasty cookies. If you want them to come out looking like they're ready for a magazine shoot, sure, go ahead and roll out the dough. Mine spread a little bit anyhow...

Acorn Squash

This wasn't that good. Admittedly, I followed one reviewer's suggestion and microwaved the halves for 5 minutes before baking them for 20 minutes. They were not even close to done after this second step, and I ended up having to bake them for another 20 - 30 minutes.

Nutty Crispy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
This was a pretty good cookie! It was a little too crumbly for my liking, but the taste was almost exactly like a store bought sugar cookie. Next time I will probably try frosting or maybe a jam thumbprint to spice it up.
