Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
Great recipe. I make them every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Covering the bacon in brown sugar first, then wrapping the mini wieners works well. And rather than using toothpicks, I just use large skewer sticks and put about 5-6 on each stick. You can fit about 10-12 skewers on a baking sheet, and it makes it very easy and quick to turn them half way through cooking. Most people enjoy eating them off the stick too, or you can just remove them and put them in a crock pot/warming dish and they don't fall apart after being cooked.

Grilled Delmonico Steaks

I omitted the 2 tb. of salt and this was still INSANELY salty. Even if it hadn't been I think the flavor would of overpowered the beef which is what you want to taste when you buy rib-eyes.

Best Ever Pie Crust

This crust is way better then the one I've been using for the past 20 years! I think it's the extra shortening. It was light, flaky and perfect with my homemade pumpkin pie!

I just wanted to add that you can use any spices to make this sandwhich. I've had great results with Old Bay and Cavender's Greek as well.

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Great recipe! I had to change a few things because my cupboards were bare but this recipe is an excellent base for any variation of seafood chowder. I used 2% milk and mixed it with the flour like a roux, to about a peanut butter color. I also added a can of tuna and a can of salmon because I was short one can of clams and I wanted that fishy taste. I also used homemade chicken broth instead of water to soften the veg. The results were divine! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Jammin Good Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
Made these late last night-as I was patting the dough into the pan I realized I forgot the egg! But I went ahead anyway-I used fig jam, about 14 oz. & baked for 35 minutes. hubby loved them, took some to work- they disappered quickly. Also took some to a neighbor & they got a thumbs up there also. Tomorrow, the last of them will be the Sat night dessert to our weekly wii get-together. They are crumbly so I cut them into very small bite-size pieces, to eliminate that problem & it sure makes them go further. So many variations could be made w/this-can't wait to make some more & use a different filling. Oh, & I did sprinkle confectioner's sugar over after they came out of the oven.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
Very good soup, I used fresh broccoli and it came it just as good. I didn't have cornstarch so I used a flour/milk mixture to thicken the soup. Will definitely make again, but will cut back a little on the velvetta.

Hoot Owl Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
I followed the recipe to the letter and my cookies turned out DELICIOUS. I cut the recipe in half and within a few hours, half of the cookies were gone (my boyfriend and I can't get enough of them). One tip: Don't preheat the oven as step 1, the dough has to chill for 2 hours, what a waste of energy. Will be making these many times over.

Shrimp Gazpacho

This recipe was SO great! I will definitely make it again. I could not use the Clamato or any other premixed clam/tomato drink because I'm allergic to MSG- so I used V8 and added a couple of handfuls of steamed clams for extra fish flavor. It was perfect. :)

Simple Chicken and Noodles

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Just like Chicken and Noodles should be! Easy recipe and absolutely delicious, I think some people are expecting this to be a soup recipe but this is something completely different. I always serve this over mashed potatoes and always get rave reviews. This recipe is the same one my great-grandma used and is soo comforting. Also, DO NOT put this in a crockpot when first making as the broth needs to be hot enough for the noodles to form, if not they will just turn gummy. Great recipe Clara! <3

Pineapple Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I made a 13 x 9 cake & knew as written it would be too much frosting, so halved it. it came out nicely, a bit thicker than a glaze, but not one that could be swirled either. Which was fine w/me. The only change I did was add a few drops of lemon extract to "brighten" the flavor. I used it on a carrot cake, to which I had added crushed pineapple. Very tasty together.
