Strawberry Dream Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
This is possibly the worst cake I've ever made/tasted. I am giving it a 2-star because the frosting turned out nicely. The cake itself was bland, despite the fact that I tasted the batter and it tasted fine. The texture was a cross between cake and cheesecake but reminded me of a dense bread pudding. Perhaps I was looking for a more cake-like texture... but it just didn't taste good. I would recommend mixing the cream cheese until almost whipped before adding it to the chocolate and hot heavy cream for a smoother consistantcy. (Strangely, I mixed the cream cheese for the cake but not the frosting. Could this be the reason that the cake turned out the way it did???) I brought this to a small dinner party and nobody raved about it, although somebody did like it because it wasn't too sweet. I will not be making this again.

Secret Sauce Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
There are some errors in this recipe, I have contacted All Recipes but will put the correct measurements here until they can get around to getting it fixed. Everything else is the same just the amounts. 1 Bottle of Bernsteins Italian dressing 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/3 Cup Soy Sauce 4 to 6 Tablespoons Brown Sugar 10 Cloves of Pressed Garlic 1 Teaspoon Dry Mustard 1 Teaspoon Ground Ginger This recipe is the best. Our family also uses this for steak. We tend to let it sit in the fridge for a few days turning it once a day to move around the seasonings. Keep a spray bottle near the grill because this flares up sometimes. Enjoy!

Pretty good but the glaze was a little too sweet for my liking. Next time I will use less sugar.

Sausage Barley Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2006
This is a really good and hearty soup. I used 8 c of chicken broth, 3 carrots (per other reviewers) and doubled the amount of barley, since I'm a huge barley fan. I cooked the soup in the crock pot for 8 hours (overnight) and then put in the fridge to later be heated up when I got home from work. I think it really let the flavors marry. Maybe next time I will try making this with hot Italian sausage (use bulk; easier to cook) and will keep the sausage in bigger pieces. I will definitely be making this one again!

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
I followed the advice of other reviewers and just put everything in the crockpot minus the barley (put in last hour of cooking) and cooked it for 7+ hours on high. The meat took that long to soften up. Taste was pretty good but was not exactly what I was looking for. I think I would leave out the frozen veggies next time, add 1/2 an onion more, more celery and perhaps zucchini, porcini mushrooms and/or potato to the mix.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2005
Great recipe. My family and my co-worker love the chicken. Actualy, I used Hens instead of a big chicken. My husband doesn't enjoy big chicken. I added with splash of lemond juice and rub some olive oil to merinate over night. It is the best rotisserie ever. Thanks.

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2005
This is going to be my beef stew recipe from now on... Great flavor! Here are the tweaks: I added 2C mushrooms, 2 celery ribs, used 2 ea. of yukon gold and red potatoes, 1 red onion, substituted the dijon mustard for about 1t of dry mustard instead (my husband HATES mustard, but can tolerate dry mustard) 1T worchestershire sauce, French Onion soup mix, deglazed the pan which browned the meat with approximately 1/2C red wine which was added to the stew. I cooked in the crockpot for 8 hours on low... and came home to a fabulous stew! I think next time I will increase the amount of potatoes and mushrooms as there was still room in my crockpot. Delicious!!!!

Apple Cake VII

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2005
I diced my apples instead of shredding them like another reviewer and really enjoyed the "chunks" of apples. Also used 1t cinnamon and 1t of nutmeg (ran out of cinnamon) which was nice. This was a really, really easy and delicious cake. I wanted to find a different/unique apple recipe that wasn't apple pie. This works!

Creamy Coconut Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2005
This recipe is REALLY good and REALLY easy! I'd give it a 4 1/2 stars if I could... (I hesitate to give this recipe 5 stars since the cake comes from a box.) I used only about 3/4 of the coconut/milk mixture and made my own whipped cream. I, too, used coconut milk instead of the coconut cream like some of the other reviewers. Next time I will try putting chocolate shavings instead of the coconut shavings since my husband doesn't like dry coconut. Can't wait! YUM!!!!!!!!

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: May 26, 2005
I made this without the ham, used fat-free sour cream and added more cheddar cheese. I thought this recipe tasted too "sour" so next time I will cut the sour cream by AT LEAST 50%. I will also cook it longer than 1 hour, as the cheese wasn't as melted as I hoped it would be.

Very easy to make! It would have been better if I didn't add the butter at the end. I soaked the raisins in the milk while the rice cooked. I will give this 4 stars w/o the butter.
