Very, Very, Very Good Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
This cheesecake literally started a fight at the New Years party I took it to. In fact someone made off with my cake carrier with what was left. I made an Oreo cookie crust for it and drizzled caramel on top just to make it extra extra rich.

Buttermilk Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
The recipe was too dry as is, but I added an extra egg and it made it a wonderful consistency. I used the buttermilk pancake mix since I had that on hand.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
These tasted great. My bf rated them as a 5, but I'm giving them a 4 because they don't hold up in room temperature at all. They fall apart and melt in your hands easily, which isn't great for a bar snack. I didn't have confectioners' sugar on hand, so I just used a reduced amount of regular sugar. Also, I used 3 cups of crunchy peanut butter.

Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
I NEVER make gravy, but, when I hosted my first Thanksgiving this year, packaged gravy just wouldn't do and anything I could get done in advance was even better! I made this two days ahead and it got awesome reviews! I subbed some of the water with white wine at my Mom's suggestion, but, otherwise kept it the same and I would highly recommend! Thanks for sharing!

Fluffy French Toast

This is the best french toast recipe! We use french bread, and I add extra sugar and cinnamon to the top of the bread slices as they are cooking as well. Thanks so much!

Classic Waffles

Great tasting waffle, but the batter, for me, came out a bit too thick. Added a little more milk to help thin it out.

Cherry Cheesecake

Taste-wise, this was great. It didn't set up for me, but I didn't beat it thoroughly so I am pretty sure that is my fault. It still tasted wonderful when it was a semi-goopy mess. :-)

Easy to Remember Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
I definitely don't agree with the part of the description that says it's not for novices! This was the easiest pie crust ever! I've never made a pie in my life from scratch, but I decided to try my hand at it for Christmas. I used this recipe for my apple pie, and it turned out beautifully!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
My changes included boiling a whole chicken with herbs de provence, carrot, onion, celery. Cool and debone chicken. Save strained broth. Saute 1 md onion in the 2 TBLSP butter and add about a cup of frozen sliced celery. To that I added two cans of cream of chicken soup, and about 3 cups chicken broth, and two cans of mixed vegetables/drained. Brought to simmer and put in slower cooker. Added rubbed sage, thyme, kosher salt, pepper, and 1 Tablespoon sherry. Carefully added my cubed cooked chicken, wanted to keep bite size chunks. Once the mixture came to a slow bubble again, I added the rolled and sliced biscuits froma 20 oz can and thought it was way too much. Left that on high for 2 hours. Dumplings cooked just fine, but as expected, too much! Chicken part was very tasty, but would have been bland without the added seasonings. Strongly recommend sauteeing onions in the butter and celery before putting the slow cooker. Good base recipe...four stars. :) UPDATE: the dumplings I dug them all out . Added bit more broth. Will serve this over split, fresh baked biscuits. Will make again WITHOUT the dumplings.

Basic Pasta

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
Just tried this recipe and was very pleased with the results. Good flavor, good texture, and seems to be simple enough to be versatile. I added 1 1/2 tsp of lemon pepper to the second batch and it turned out great. Added sesame oil to the third batch for lo mein noodles. Am looking forward to experimenting some more!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
Not only do I not bake, the mere thought of doing so nearly gives me an anxiety attack. Yet Christmas this year found me working with a very small budget to create a very big meal, so I realized I had no choice but to make my own dinner rolls. I don't own a breadmaker or even a stand mixer, so I had to do everything by hand (which is even more nerve-wracking considering my complete lack of experience with bread dough). These turned out AMAZING! Perfectly fluffy on the inside, tasty flavor, amazing smell as they're baking. Even if you're as intimidated as I am about baking, you owe it to yourself to try this recipe at least once.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
As mind-boggling as it may sound, I'd never had a sausage stuffing before! This recipe sounded interesting, so I made it for the first time for a Christmas dinner. I cooked it as a side dish since we weren't having any sort of poultry. It was absolutely scrumptious! All of the flavors are very well balanced. The only things I tweaked was using pork sausage (it's the only type I had in the fridge), and used a generic poultry seasoning mix in place of the three spices. Definitely a keeper!

Chocolate Mint Candies Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
Awesome soft chocolate cookie! I used Andes mints on the top, and put them in the freezer for a few minutes after spreadnig the mint over the cookie to harden the melted chocolate and make them stackable. The cookies stayed soft was worried they wouldn't. I will make these again very addicting to eat.

Classic Tiramisu

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
This was really good, I baked my own lady fingers. I could really taste the mascarpone cheese and not really taste a lot of the coffee liqueur though. I think I might be use to Tiramisu with a little of the coffee flavor mixed into the filling and not just brushed onto the lady fingers. I dipped my Lady fingers in french vanilla Kahlua (that didn't have orginal here). I am giving it 5 stars for being a good dessert but I might try it with more kahlua or brewed coffee next time.

Great Ladyfingers! I bake mine on a silpat and used them for Tiramisu. I also piped a 9 inch circle for the bottom of the Tiramisu and it baked just fine.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
This was a good icing, nice and shiny but if you follow it exact than it will be super super thick. You MUST add more milk if you want to be able to dip or spread it nicely on cookies, thats why I am giving it 4 stars but other than that it was fine.
