Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
You're not going to believe this, but I made this recipe for a church chili contest and won 1st Place with it the first time I made it. I made very minor modifications, I used one can of Pinto Beans substituting the can of Red Kidney Beans and managed the use of the tomato sauce during the simmering to get the consitency I like. I enjoyed this Great Recipe and so did our church and I have the blue ribbon to prove it!!!!!

The flavor was great and I didn't have any problems with the cheese gooping out when I cooked it. Although, next time I will add a bit more blue cheese. Otherwise really yummy!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
I could not find spicy chili beans or green chile peppers. Instead of just got an extra can of chili beans in mild sauce and I used 1 serrano pepper and a can of green chiles and roasted pepper flavor. I thought the recipe was actually pretty easy to prepare. I took it to a work potluck and everyone said "I don't even like chili but your chili was sooooooo good that I couldn't stop eating it....and that's makes my day. Thanks for the great chili recipe. Will keep this one for sure :)

Kielbasa with Peppers and Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
This is a great dish. I do reccommend putting the oil, depending on if you used smoked sausage or the beef kiebalsa. Kiebalsa is greasier than the smoked sausage. I added sauteed onion, garlic mushrooms, brocolli, and topped with parmesan cheese. MMMM MMMM GOOD! If your adding ingredients add the oil, if not then it also wouldn't be necessary.

Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
Fantastic is all I can say. We grilled chicken tenders and then served everything on a platter. I built my Gyro and took a bite and could not believe we replicated one of our favorite dishes! Even the recipe for the Tzatziki sauce was perfect. Thank you, we will make it again!

Chicken Fiesta Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
This is healthy and tasty. I didn't use the fajita rub only because I had marinated chicken leftover which was highly flavorful. So instead I warmed up the the other half of the fajita mix with the salsa, and 1/2 cup of sour cream, corn, and black beans and added some garlic salt. Then I mixed in the chicken. Turned out great. Thanks!! Next time i will try the recipe as is just to be fair but I'm sure it's just as good.

Marinated Grilled Shrimp

We succesfully executed this recipe! Kids and Adults all loves it. I made two modifications. We used Ketchup and we reduced the pepper to 1/8th of a tsp. Both worked out very well. The pepper was still there and the hint of it was ok with my very sensetive family! Thank you for this great recipe!

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
I'm giving it 4 stars because I changed the recipe a bit. First of all my onion mix did not get sauteed long enough so the onions were to strong and a tad crunchy, which was my own fault but I was dissappointed with this soup. I followed the recipe almost exactly accept added 1/4 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of sour cream. That was fine but there was not enough potatoes (I used two huge potatoes too) and I used 1/2 tsp of basil per reviews. It was still good but it was missing that zip i was looking for and after eating the soup I had a bad taste in my mouth, probably from the basil.

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
I have tried several times to make dishes with uncooked white rice and my rice always turns out hard n crunchy even when i follow the recipe exactly but for some reason I finally got it. In this case I did twist the recipe according to other reviewers, but I finally got the rice right! This is what I did: I first sauteed the onions, green peppers and added 2 garlic cloves minced until tender, then i added the rice until lighty brown. I then added 2 cups of chicken broth instead of water, along with 1/4 tsp cumin,no salt, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and chilli powder as directed, diced canned tom with garlic n onion, 1 can on green chilles. I brought to a boil at medium heat, then covered and reduced heat to low for about 40 minutes and did not remove the cover until the timer went off. It turned out perfect!!! I am so happy I can finally make a recipe with white rice that turns out cooked and not crunchy. WOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Egg Salad Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
I couldn't decide whether to give this 3 stars of 4 because it is waaaaay to much mayo. I cut the recipe in half using 4 eggs and it called for 1/2 cup of mayo. I started with a 1/4 cup of mayo and oh my god my eggs were swimming. I was very dissappointed although the flavor was good. I put it in the fridge and the next day decided to give it a try and oh my god it was perfect. Start of with a small amount of mayo depending on egg size, mine were large. The next day this salad was gone in minutes...so thanks for the recipe. I added chopped pickles.mmmm!

Chicken Garlic Pizza

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
This pizza sure was different but good. I think next time i'll try alfredo sauce.mmmmm! I doubled the sauce and added mozzerella cheese and mushrooms. I used the pre cooked chicken strips and chopped. Next time I will skip the riccotta because it does not melt very well and has a weird taste. After eating I decided to add bbq sauce, that made it way better and took away the riccotta taste, which was a good thing.

Zucchini Souffle

I don't know if my oven is at fault, or perhaps even my very old baking powder. But this turned out badly. I baked it at 350 for 50 minutes. Not an hour. The top and bottom were over-done. The middle was gooey and almost watery. I don't know what should be done differently, but it failed.
