Almond Wild Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I bought a brown/wild rice blend (wild rice is EXPENSIVE!), and followed the directions on the bag in cooking it, which means I didn't need the full 5 1/2 cups of broth. It turned out great - served it with cranberry chicken at a dinner party, and people could not stop talking about it. Next time I will add some more golden raisins and some green onion/shallot. As far as leftovers are concerned, follow the other tips here and add a little broth or water to it before heating, otherwise it gets really dried out. Overall, though - a great side dish!!!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

This was great! I made the recipe pretty much exactly as written other than prep. I had some leftover roasted chicken, so I used that, and I just sauteed all the veggies in the butter and followed the recipe from there. Definitely a keeper :)

Cranberry Streusel Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
Top notch! Even my husband who doesn't approve of high-calorie desserts succumbe to this pie. I cut the sugar in half, substituting a 1/8 of a cut of Nu-Stevia, in both the cranberry filling and the steusel topping. Used pecans instead of walnuts. This is a KEEPER!

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
This is THE stroganoff recipe!! I added the cream cheese with the other ingredients to start and it didn't make any difference. I also added beefy onion dry soup mix and a boullion cube and a dollop of sour cream at the end with the noodles. This was the best stroganoff I've ever had and amazing comfort food!

Banana Banana Bread

Super good! I had 4 bananas which made 2 cups so I added a baby food container of pureed peach and an equal amount of cinnamon applesauce. I also added a capful of vanilla and 2 gentle shakes of pumpkin pie spice.

Pumpkin Puree

Worked great - I put a little water in the bottom of the cut halves and it helped but may make for a liquidy puree. I'll freeze them in 1 cup amounts and use as needed. Thanks for the very easy no peeling or chopping pumpkin puree!!

Pumpkin Spice Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
Easy to make and taste like the supermarkets pumpkin cookies. I added 1 tsp of pumpkin spice and a cup of chocolate chips to the batter before cooking. I also had to cook mine for 14 minutes to set, the first batch was gooey at 10 and had to go right back in the oven.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
A very good bread. I had old yeast and a cool kitchen so I had to let it rise a looong time. I did cut the sugar (I think in half) and I think it would have been to sweet for sandwich bread otherwise. Tasty with a good crumb and it made beautiful loaves.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
I've tinkered with this recipe some. I make it a little wetter by adding buttermilk (sometimes take out a little sour cream and substitute the buttermilk). I add in white choc chips and frozen huckleberries. My son can't get enough. Any other scones are now just a dissappointment.
