Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2009
Wow! The best scone I have ever had. I never really liked scones before but these are a keeper. I usually substitute the raisins for 2 cups of blueberries. They are a little hard to get the dough mixed with more berries than the recipe calls for, but they sure taste fantastic. The family absolutely loved them. I make a frosting of cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and several drops of milk for my husband to top them off with as he is a frosting lover

Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
I've been making this dish for years, I start slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into boiling water to remove some of the salt, then saute it in butter, add cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season w/a bit of white pepper... that's the authentic way to make it!

Happy Shrimp

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
This was definitely happy shrimp! Happy mouth anyway! I was making it for 5 of us and was glad that I saw others say it didn't make all that much! I doubled it, plus used a whole pint of whipping cream instead of the 2/3 it would have been doubled. There was just enough with one serving left, which I am sure someone will snag for lunch tomorrow! I did not put the basil, tomatoes or green onion in until the cream had thickened. I didn't think those ingredients should cook so long. I put them in right at the end. I added a 1/3 cup parmesan cream and a little pinch of red pepper flakes also. I served it over angel hair pasta. Was amazing!!

Pillow-Soft Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
Texture was great, but needs a little more sweetener. I substituted butter for the shortening and honey for the sugar because of my allergies. Made great sandwiches out of these rolls. Thanks, will definitely keep this recipe

Cajun Cabbage with Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
Tastes great, was easy to make. I only gave it 4 stars though because it seemed a little odd , more like it should be the filling for something. I might try this again as filling for Stuffed Cabbage rolls.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
This wasn't a bad recipe, just not to my family's liking. My husband said this tasted like Costco lasagna. We didn't like the flavor of the Italian seasoning or the sausage. I will stick with my mom's tried and true recipe. Thanks anyway

Creamy Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
This was sooooo good! Very rich! I read that someone used heavy cream instead of half and half but I think that would have been over kill! I did it just like the recipe and it was wonderful! The only thing was I had to add some more flour and water to thicken it some more because it did't get as thick as I liked before adding the half and half. I served it with sourdough rolls. My family loved it and I will be making this again!

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
Everyone loves this cake! However I only gave it 4 stars because it is way too sweet with all that frosting. If you cut the frosting ingredients in 1/2 it is just right. And, I can never get it to swirl because of the brown sugar mixture, but that doesn't matter me.

Clam Sauce with Linguine

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
I read a lot of the reviews on this and really liked what Andrea2289 did and followed her suggestions very closely. It was totally amazing! We had it with french bread that we dipped in the broth. So good! I noticed that a lot of people added cream or sour cream to this. I think they mistakenly thought this was supposed to be a cream sauce?? I added even more chicken stock and clam juice to have more broth for dipping. This is a keeper! A fairly inexpensive nice meal for a large family!

Banana Bread IV

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
This is the best bananan bread recipe EVER! And I don't like bananas! I have made 9 loaves of this in the last 2 weeks! I have teens and they keep gobbling it up. I did do what someone suggested and used 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown. Was perfect! Also added toasted chopped pecans. I put brown sugar and cinnamon mixed in the bottom of the pan and then sprinkled more top also. Each batch made 3 loaves, I think my silicon loaf pans must be smaller. I only had to cook them for one hour. I only used 3 bananas and it was just the right amount of flavor, not too over the top banana-y. This stuff is just to die for!

Fettuccine Alfredo

It was alright but too thick. I had to add more milk and cheese. I don't think I really liked the flavor of the cream cheese. It was a lot better after I added more milk.

A pretty good sauce, I might lighten up on the garlic powder & salt just a smidgen next time. A nice, thin sauce that I used on penne rigate. Perfect texture that that pasta. Thanks for the recipe!

Really great flavor and texture. I used my Bosch mixer instead of mixing & kneading by hand. I also substituted a 1/2 cup honey for the sugar because of a sugar allergy. Will definitely make again. Thanks!

Cream Cheese Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
Great recipe! I changed it a little after reading other reviews, I didn't want to risk a soggy crust. I doubled the cream cheese and confectioner's sugar and added 1 tsp of Vanilla. I did not use the whipping cream. My family LOVED this pie, said it was a keeper. Serve with sweetened whipped cream. Will definitely make again! Thanks

Karyn's Cream of Crab Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
This recipe is awesome!! A little tweaking though. Definitely add celery and onions in the beginning. Saute then add to soup. Make a roux of the flour and hollandaise. i think it makes a difference. Add a couple dashes of worcheshire sauce(sp). As far as the sherry, I just added some good red wine. My husband and I love this recipe and I am a Maryland girl through and through. Great recipe Karyn!

Hot German Potato Salad III

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
This is an awesome recipe! I have made it twice now. I found that 3 pounds of potatoes and twice the sauce is perfect. "9 potatoes" is far too vague. We love bacon so I used a whole pound. I also added a splash more vinegar like some suggested. Very good!!

Beef and Bean Chimichangas

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
To even get my family to try this, I followed another's advice and used diced green chilies instead of the green pepper and because my husband also dislikes onion, I had to cut it back to just a couple of tablespoons. The flavor of the spices was just right, but not for those who only like their Mexican food mild. Thanks for the great recipe!
