Butter Snow Flakes

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This was ok. I did not add orange zest. I think it needs more flavor - perhaps in the form of frosting. It just seemed a little dry. I liked the idea of cream cheese in the recipe, but I will probably try other recipes.

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
To the reviewer who said that wringing the moisture out of the potatoes wasn't necessary, you were SO wrong. 1 egg wasn't enough either. These were extremely watery and I knew they would never hold together as is. I wound up adding about an additional 1/2 cup of flour so they would bind. The second time I made them I extracted as much water as I could and added 3 eggs as listed in the recipe, huge difference. They were excellent. At least it was a cheap mistake.

Not impressed with flavor. Also, too many potatoes. But... you can easily modify spices and ingredient ratios to your taste.

No Bake Cookies V

I had my niece and nephew over and we used this recipe for CHRISTMAS cookies and it was perfect! They are 4 and 7 and almost made them all by themselves, then as I was spooning on to the wax paper, they were right behind me with sprinkles and red-hots... perfect and easy to decorate (who woulda thunk?) They had a ball and it was E-A-S-Y!

This was tasty. I made it with extra potatoes and less milk, as suggested. I also substituted other things for the salt items, as suggested.

Lentil and Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
This is the 4th Sausage and Lentil soup recipe I've made from this site and I finally hit pay dirt. This one rocks! I essentially did the recipe according to the author except I used all chicken stock instead of water, a full pound of Italian sausage, added 8 oz. of sliced mushrooms, doubled the spices and added 2 cups of fresh spinach. I also used red lentils since the recipe didn't specify red or green. PERFECT lentil soup, delicious and hearty.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Very good! I am not a huge fan of fruit pies, but this was very good and well received at the event I took it to. I made two pies to use up a ton of apples - one with the full crust and a cutout, one with lattice. I think I actually like the full crust better. I added some cinnamon (1tsp), fresh nutmeg (pinch), and allspice (pinch) to the sugar mixture. I think the recipe would have been just as good without it, but I love those spices. I think this recipe deserves it's high ratings.

Banana Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
oh heavens is this good ! I used a miniature loaf pan that turns out 8 small bread loaves and cooking for 25 min made them just perfect ! I also baked a full loaf for the time specified in the reciped and it also turned out lovely. These little darlings will go in all my Xmas presents this year. For now they are snuggled up in my freezer while i enjoy the smells of the season the bread left in my house. I added a touch of Ground Cloves and instead of nutz i put in orange flavoured Craisins. HOORAY !!!

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
I substituted garbonzo beans for kidney, left out the green beans, used canned diced Italian style tomatoes because I wanted the chunks, added 1 lb. of Italian sausage and used less zucchini (2) but did the rest according to the author. I also used about 6 cups of chicken broth which seemed about right. Amazing minestrone!

I have to say I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be given the other ratings/reviews. I am not sure if I will make it again, I have a different recipe I like much better. However, I definitely think the sugar would need to be cut back it seemed a little sweet. My husband liked it ok, but I just didn't enjoy the flavor.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
I doubled the spices and per another reviewers suggestions did 2 things differently. I added 1/2 cup of applesauce and it was plenty moist, and I checked it at about 40 minutes and it was done. 1 full hour and it would have overcooked. Holds together well, very tender and has a beautiful gingerbread flavor. Almost forgot, I did add 1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg as was suggested so make that 3 things.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
This was good - I added a ton more ham than it called for - it initially was all potato. I used carrot instead of celery. I really liked the flavor of white pepper in this soup. Lastly, I used chicken broth instead of bouillon so I had to adjust the salt somewhat. Will make again.

My husband LOVED this. I found it to be just 'meh'. I used black beans because that is what we prefer and cut back on the cayenne a little because of our kids. Otherwise, I made the recipe as stated.

Baked Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Amazing!! I already have to make this again this weekend, by request! The ONLY thing I did was with the baked potatoe part. I cut the potatoes in slices3/4 of the way down, then I drizzled them with Olive Oil, then sprinkled the potatoes with Lawreys Season Salt and baked, then cut up the potatoes in cubes and mixed in and did recipe as it says!

Mushroom Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
My 'hates pork' husband loved this. I gave it 4 stars only because I did it a little differently. I browned the seasoned pork chops in 2 T of Olive Oil, removed the chops, then deglazed the pan with white wine (about 1/3 C). When the alcohol burned off, I added 1T of crushed garlic, 1/2 tsp of thyme and the onions. Then I added the soup, the onions and returned the pork chops to the pan. Yum!

Turkey Pot Pie I

This was delicious! What I did differently: I used a package of frozen peas, carrots, green beans and corn. I upped the water to 2 1/2 cups. Added another boullion, upped the flour by 1 T and used 2 C of turkey. It was soooo good. My 5 year old inhaled it!
