Cheese Fondue

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
Yum - good stuff. Easy and tasty. DO NOT add the salt, it definitely doesn't need it. Also be careful if you substitute broth for the wine because the added sodium might make it too salty. Also we skipped the nutmeg - no one here is a fan.

Chocolate Bar Fondue

Yum & easy! I threw the chips and cream in the crock pot and when it melted I added the vanilla, coffee and sugar. I omitted the water - I found the consistency good without the water. It's a keeper!

I used hash browns and egg substitute and it had a funny taste. All the ingredients should have made a good combination but it didn't.

Good - they did spread out alittle. I eventually put them in a mini muffin tin to bake - spray the heck out of the tin!!!

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
These are out-of-this-world good! And easy! I followed the recipe to a tee.. and while I began melting the chocolate, I put the truffles in the fridge to chill (for easier dipping later). I also enjoyed how minimal the ingredients were, and the cleanup was not so bad either. Just make sure to sprinkle on the topping within a minute of dipping in the chocolate (the chocolate dries fast)! I used the Oreo crumbs for most, but also added some fresh, chopped bacon to a few (for those chocolate & bacon lovers out there)! :)

Mexican Pesto

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
Ken, you're a genius! This recipe was great; I used unsalted roasted pumpkin seeds. I will certainly make this again, I like it better then regular pesto! I have to admit I was a little hesitant that this would taste to strongly of cilantro and the pumpkin seeds made me worry how this was actually going to taste... but this was wonderful! I'm so glad I made the recipe exactly. Thanks so much!!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
This recipe is great for someone new to baking. I made three different colors of icing and they were just beautiful, they were very shiny and very vibrant. It was easy for even a novice like me to get the right consistency by adding a little more milk to the mixture. I used soy milk and the icing set up with out a problem.

Sugar Cookie Cutouts

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
I am so very happy with this recipe. I am just learning how to bake and this recipe was fool proof. The dough was a little sticky before I refrigerated it, which concerned me (like I said i'm learning). After chilling it the dough was great and not at all sticky. It rolled beautifully and the cut outs were easy to transfer to the baking tray. I did have to cut the time in my oven to nine minutes, so watch your cookies.

Flavorful Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
This was excellent! First, I made the sauce as a marinade and placed the beef in it for a few hours (adding garlic and ginger as well as extra soy sauce). Then made a second batch for when I cooked it (added it last, since the beef was plenty juicy from the marinade). I didn't have any peapods, so I used broccoli, shredded carrots and added mushrooms with garlic and green onion. So tasty! We definitely experiemnt with and try again the next time I'm craving beef stir fry!

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
These cookies are deeeelish! It was my first time baking peanut butter cookies, and certainly not my last... and I don't think I will be straying from this recipe. :) I cut this recipe in half due to on-hand ingredients, but still managed to get two dozen out of it (I must have made them smaller). I only had creamy peanut butter on hand (and I used about 1/4 c. more than listed for half the recipe), and I reduced the sugars to preference. These came out slightly crisp (not crunchy) on the outside but extremely soft on the inside.. perfect! Although, straight out of the oven, they were not *as* soft/creamy/melt in your mouth.. but I put in fridge overnight and then brought them back out in the morning and took to work.. and that seemed to set them very nicely. Major raves from even the pickiest eaters. :) I baked these on parchment lined baking sheets that I sprayed lightly with cooking oil spray. The recipe doesn't state ungreased or greased.

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
I tried this recipe last year and it was a big hit. The folks who ended up with soupy dressing must be new to cooking or something. It clearly says to add just enough broth to moisten at the beginning. I also think that the consistency may have something to do with the surface area of your slow cooker. This comes out better when I cook it in my oval cooker, rather than my deeper round one. I also crack the lid about half way for the llast hour of cooking. I use dried cubes from the bag and it works great every time. By adding a drizzel of broth as needed throughout the cooking process it turns out perfect every time. Have made this recipe a dozen times over the last year and it is great every time. I have modified it with some ingredient changes for the holidays. We hate mushrooms at my house, so leave them out entirely. I add a pound of browned sage sausage, and a cup of dried cranberries. Replace the save witrh two t. poultry seasoning and add about a t. of fresh ground pepper. I sometimes use vegetable stock instead of chick, but that just depends on what's in the pantry. Also a wierd addition to some folks, but a standard for years in my WASP household--two cans of water chestnuts- diced fine. They keep their crunch even after the other veggies have lost theirs. Try it--they're delicious in this.

Cranberry Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
These were just okay, to me, although my boyfriend seemed to enjoy them. I didn't have a pan big enough to cook all 6 porkchops, so I ended up reducing the sauce by simmering for a half-hour and then pouring it over the already fried chops and baking for another 1/2 hour. Eh. There was a lot of jucie still and the cranberries were rather... just...eh.

Bachelor's Creamy Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
It was easy, I'll give it that, but I really wasn't impressed with it. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or I just don't like pumpkin in a soup. Either way I only half-heartedly finished my bowl and still felt hungry after and the boyfriend didn't care for it much either. Ah well.

BBQ Chicken Pizza II

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
This was delicious, and so very easy. We cut out the onion and used garlic instead, and only used red pepper instead of the green, but it was still quite tasty. I used Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Chipolte as the sauce and added a wee bit of soy sauce into it - finger licking good! And spicy with a kick. Will definitey make again. I had a lot left over and could have easily made two pizzas, so next time, I will!
