Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
This was tasty but it did't knock my socks off. I like to make pot roast in the crockpot but it certainly is NOT my forte. I'll continue my search for the recipe that makes me and my family go Mmm Mmm. What I liked about this recipe was the vegetables included in the recipe so there was no need to cook things separately. I did substitute 3/4 cup of water with red wine. I do think this addition was a nice enhancement to the flavors.

New England Clam Chowder I

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Excellent! I used to not be a fan of clam chowder, until I tried the real deal in Boston last month! In Boston, the clam chowder is smooth and creamy.. not thick, goopy, and flour-y. Ew.. that's what we get out here in California! :) I was also amazed at how simple it is to make this at home, from scratch. I admit I left out the bacon to make it "healthier", but it really did not sacrifice flavor (so you *know* that this recipe is good and didn't need bacon to make it good)! I took the suggestion of a few other reviewers to boil the potatoes in the clam juice from the cans (I decreased amount of potato, because I like the ratio to include more clams over potato), and also to mash up some of the cooked potatoes to use as a "thickener", if necessary.. and I can not believe how quick and simple it was to whip up. I added a *lot* of black pepper, and just a tiny bit of sea salt, since I used cans and those already have enough sodium. If you're looking for a thinner, creamy, true NE clam chowder, this is it. If you like the thicker, chunkier, flour-y type of soups, then you may not enjoy this recipe. I bet using cream instead of half and half for special occasions would be out of this world yummy! :)

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
I wouldn't say these are quick and easy to make as the cook time is 1 1/2 hrs and the prep time isn't that quick either. Also, the flavor was a bit bland. I even tried the golden mushroom soup tip, cayenne pepper tip, and sautee'd mushrooms tip. Still bland.

Italian Style Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
I thought this was really good. I scaled it back to use 1lb of ground beef. I almost forgot to put the tomatoes in it and I'm glad I did. It made it incredibly moist. Next time I will use petite diced- my chunks were a little large. Very nice flavor to this. Thanks for sharing.

Richard and Suzanne's Famous Red Beans and Sausage

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
I grew up eating red beans & rice on a regular basis. I've also tried many different recipes and just couldn't find "the one." This one is it. I made it with the bacon as instructed, but I just don't see the need for it. And, I ended up having to make a roux because I like my beans a little thicker. And for those reasons (and those reasons only) I had to give 4 out of 5 stars. Truly a great red beans dish! Don't forget the corn bread!!

OMG I thought these sounded familiar so I decided to make them. Once they came out of the oven and I smelled one I knew exactly what it was. My Oma (grandmother in german) makes these every year for xmas!! I can't believe I made them and they were so easy! This is a recipe I will treasure forever as my Oma has. :)

Chipotle Mayo

This is really good. It's also very hot! I added garlic and lime juice as others suggested and also put in a whole cup of mayo and it's still very hot. It's good and hope to use it on my new diet as it is low in calories when using light mayo.

Slow Cooker Lentil and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
Delicious base recipe, but cooking time seems excessive for lentils. Here is how I altered it to make it 5 stars: I make my own broth; this time it was all my leftover veggies with 2 smoked hamhocks. Slowcooked for 12 hours, tossed the meat and veggies, refrigerated the broth overnight, then skimmed off the fat before starting this recipe proper! I wanted more of a 'ham and bean' flavored soup, so I did not add the recipe spices, onions or tomato of any kind and doubled the minced garlic. Slowcooked it on high for 1 hour, then low for 2 hours and it was perfect. The homemade broth is really the key, I have a batch going all the time and freeze it for when I need soupbase. (This broth featured hamhocks with garlic, green onions tips, celery and bok choy bases, stems from cilantro and dill and carrot tops. I save all my veggie stems, tops, skins and other un-eatables in a freezer bag; when its time to make broth, into the crockpot they go.) This was the very first time I made lentils and hubby ate them up! Thanks for gettin' me going'!

Supreme Strawberry Topping

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I save this in my box to used for a special birthday breakfast and was startled when I found that my roommates ate all of the fresh strawberries and there was no more vanilla extract (cookie season =/), So I ended up using frozen strawberries and strawberry extract, much different recipe but I am thankful for the guidance. It was good!

Baked Chicken Saltimbocca

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I would probably give this 3.5 stars if they would let you do 1/2's. Next time I would not bread the chicken. I don't think I have had saltimbocca that was breaded. I may try again without the breading and browning the chicken first before putting it in the oven.
