Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
this was pretty good! it does NOT take 45 minutes to bake however... i freaked out when i turned on the light to check on it after about 25 minutes and it was practically burned! the bread is a good texture but i'm going to use a smaller pan next time so my bread doesn't turn out so fat looking and taller looking. good recipe!

Pumpkin Waffles with Apple Cider Syrup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This was pretty good. it could have used more pumpkin and I don't even like pumpkin that much. I used a cinnamon syrup instead. it wasn't crispy but it was soft and i liked the consistency. I might try to make again and add more pumpkin.

Cinnamon Syrup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This was my first time actually making syrup! This syrup was really easy to make and it tasted good it was just a little bit too thick for me. Really dark and thick and over masked the flavor of the pumpkin waffles i made it with. I probably won't make this again but if you like thick syrup you'll definitely like it. I LOVED the cinnamon flavor to it.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I didn't like these very much. They're an okay cookie like straight out of the oven but after they're just a little bit old they're just gross. i thought it was WAY too much peanut butter and that made it a difficult thing to eat rather than an enjoyable thing. other than that it was a VERY easy recipe to follow.

I made these and they were very Chocolaty. Too bitter on the deep chocolate taste and very dense. Too caky to be a brownie and too fudgie to be a cake.

Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Balsamic Vinegar

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
This recipe was alright. I followed it pretty precisely but i'm just not a vinegar person I guess. My mom likes vinegar and she liked it but i could barely handle one slice. I guess i like my pork to be sweet. But you like vinegar taste you'll like this recipe.

Peach Raspberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
So this cobbler is in the oven right now and i'm just so excited. I blanched the peaches before peeling and then slicing. just kinda estimated with a measuring cup mixing the peaches with raspberries and blueberries. (I thought the blueberries looked really nice in all of the pictures so i added them) I actually used fresh peaches and frozen raspberries and blueberries just letting them thaw on their own in a bowl. The batter for the cobbler part is SO good just as batter i wanted to eat it right then and there. I put a little less baking powder because my mom and i don't care too much for the taste. used brown sugar for the fruit mixture and half brown and white sugar for the batter. DON'T use more than 3/4 cups of milk that's all it needed to be evenly moist. it looks BEAUTIFUL! and I'm so excited! will update on taste! EDIT-- SOOOO GOOD! my mom said it just got better with every bite. I topped each slice with homemade whipped cream and sprinkled a tiny bit of nutmeg and cinnamon over it for looks. Amazing! definitely will make again!

Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
These were definitely VERY good! i was in a hurry and just making them for fun so i didn't let the cream cheese get to exactly to room temperature so my batter was kind of lumpy and the end result not as pretty but they tasted really good! I served with homemade strawberry jam-ish topping on some and on others just three fresh raspberries and some chocolate drizzle garnish. I added a little butter to the vanilla wafers as suggested and it turned out perfect! definitely recommend taking the time to crush the cookies. very good I will make it again since i'm a cheesecake freak and this is so easy!

Apple Pinwheels

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
Recipe tastes good. A couple hints to prevent the mess others were complaining about. 1) Place dough on wax paper that's been sprinkled with flour and use wax paper to help roll it up. 2) You can use 3 apples, but you really only need a little more than two cups of finely chopped apples. Strain before using (excess liquid = difficult to work with). Just add enough apple mix until the dough is evenly covered but not over done. Also, you don't need to add all of the sauce as well. Personally next time I make this treat, I am using less sugar. Probably 1/4 white and 1/4 brown sugar in the sauce mixture. They are really sweet.

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
My meat eating husband really liked it, although he said it would have been a 5 star if I had added meat to it. My 5 year old gobbled it up. I doubled the diced vegetables and spices and used 4 cans of chicken broth. I served it with a bit of balsamic vinegar and parmesan cheese in each bowl. with corn muffins on the side. It was very filling. The recipe makes a lot, there was enough that I now have 2 more dinners ready to go in the freezer for a family of 4.

Spinach and Feta Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
MMMM! when i first saw this recipe i just knew I had to try it! we had all the ingredients. I followed the recipe exactly, except i wish i had salt, peppered, and garlic powdered the meat, cheese, and spinach mixture before forming them into patties. I'm definitely a spice girl and I heavily spiced the outside of the burgers continually while cooking. I did refrigerate the patties for about an hour before putting them on the grill. when on the grill i cooked them on a low heat setting to avoid them turning black like a lot of the pictures and only flipped them once to create some yummy looking grill lines. I used whole wheat buns which i buttered and placed directly on the grill to toast. I didn't have a problem with them being dry at ALL, in fact mine were practically dripping with juices! So delicious even my picky 3 year old niece ate an entire half of one. (we told her they were krabby patties) so all in all- smelled good, tasted great, looked even better, just salt and pepper and garlic powder the meat before forming into patties otherwise they will be rather bland. EDIT- also use fresh spinach just chop it up and put however much you want in! EDIT: I just made these on the stove with a skillet with just a tad bit of butter in the pan. It was DELICIOUS and cooked up really fast. I think this recipe is going to become a constant last minute meal. it's so easy!

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
the previous review by KIMALLI1 pretty much describes my experience with this recipe. brand new yeast, no rise, lumpy, dense, crunchy crust, and no idea why I followed every direction. This was my first experience using the bread machine so i hope i find a better one so i can continue to use it. it smelled pretty good though!

so these cookies were pretty good but there's something weird about them i don't know. i guess when i eat cookies i don't want to feel gross afterwards and these cookies just definitely gave the gross i just ate a bunch of feeling. they also don't keep very well and get hard by the next day.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
SOOOO good! I followed the recipe exactly as it said and used a really good smokey barbecue sauce from trader joes. definitely a good choice. I served them on whole wheat buns that were slightly toasted and very lightly buttered with carrots and sharp cheddar kettle chips and it was so good! It keeps well in the fridge and can be heated up by the microwave and still taste very good too! thanks!

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
These were pretty good! I wish i had been more knowledgeable before making them because i realized after mixing everything and measuring everything out that i needed to halve it for the bread machine. and then i used regular white sugar for the first batch before deciding it didn't taste very good and switched to brown sugar. i used a different icing- cream cheese frosting, and it was pretty good! I might make these again but i might find a different recipe.

Portobello Mushroom Stroganoff

YUMMY! If you're not a vegetarian, you won't miss the meat. Our family is not vegetarian, but thought it would be good to incorporate one meatless dish a week. I added: 1 tbsp of yellow mustard to the sour cream mixture and substituted dried parsley flakes instead of fresh. I also added 1/4 cup of white wine at the end. I should have decreased the sour cream by at least 1/2 cup, next time I will. There was a lot of sauce left over. I did the egg noodles but also added 3-cheese filled tortellini for more substance. You can find that in the refrigerated section.

Easy Mexican Casserole

This was pretty good. Just finished eating it and didn't mind eating it. I also didn't LOVE eating it. It was better than just "ok" but it wasn't spectacular. I didn't follow the reviews to use taco seasoning or onions, and it may have added the "jazz" if I'd have done that. Hubby is in there picking at the pan, though. Guess HE liked it :-)

A keeper! My husband and I made this for my mother visiting from out of state. I did use a tsp of the chipotle tabasco sauce and I still felt it could have used a little more kick but my Mom thought it was perfect as I had made it, a good balance.
