Spicy Fisherman's Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I agree with the other reviewers that this wasn't spicy at all. But overall it was pretty good for a fish dish. I had recently accidentally bought some Whiting fillets thinking they were Tilapia fillets because they were in the same type packaging and I was in a hurry and didn't look at the package closely. ANYWAY, I used those and the fish flavor was pretty strong but my family still ate it and thought it was pretty good. I also substituted a cup of chopped fresh spinach for the parsley since I didn't have any parsley on hand. If I make this again I will make sure I have the Tilapia on hand as we prefer it's milder flavor.

I made this recipe as directed. I really liked the flavor of this chili and I will be using this chili recipe to put on top of my fry bread for Indian Tacos. Thanks so much for the recipe.

Tangy Sirloin Strips

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
I had sirloin filets wrapped in bacon from the store and I cooked them in a hot iron skillet with bacon and sliced red onion. After I cooked them to med. rare I poured the glaze in the pan. I let the steaks cook about 3 more minutes, flipping every minute or so to coat them. My husband loved it. He loved the glaze alot. We will use this glaze for pork chops and Chicken in the future. Thanks for this recipe.

Irish-Style Lamb Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
My husband likes to go to the farmer's market on Saturday mornings and he's always bringing home something out of the ordinary. This time it was lamb stew meat. I was never exposed to any kind of meat except beef, chicken and pork when I was growing up and never learned how to prepare other meats so I was very glad to find this recipe on the site. It was very easy to prepare with basic ingredients I already had on hand and has a nice flavor. I've made it twice now exactly by the recipe and it turned out perfect both times.

Lemon Sauce for Salmon Patties

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
Made this tonight to go with the "Potato Salmon Patties" from this site and it was perfect! I, too, was a little concerned about the cayenne pepper because I really don't like spicy but I put it in anyway and it was just the right amount of "kick". I will definitely save this recipe!

Potato Salmon Patties

I made this exactly according to the recipe and they were DEELISH! My family thought so, too. I also used the "Lemon Sauce for Salmon Patties" from this site, as another reviewer suggested, and it was the perfect compliment for these salmon patties. Will likely make these again!

Spanish-Style Chicken and Sausage

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
This was an easy and fairly tasty recipe. The only thing I didn't have on hand was the sweet italian sausage. I used some Polska Keilbasa and it turned out fine. (Or at least we thought so. I'm sure the taste was a little different than if I had used the sweet sausage.) Don't know if I will make again just because there are other things we like better. But overall it was a nice recipe.

Baked Beans, Texas Ranger

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
I always drain the pork and beans when making baked beans, so this was not soupy for me at all. I didn't have the sausage but my family loves this recipe. I am use to ketchup/mustard/brown sugar baked beans so this was a new refreshing way to eat them. I will be making these again and again. Thanks for the recipe.

Chili Mac Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This was pretty tasty. I did not have 2 cans of diced tomatoes and tomato paste, so I used 1 can diced tomatoes and 1 can of tomato sauce, which worked well. I also added more chili powder & cumin and added worcestershire sauce to suit our tastes. I always substitute ground turkey for ground beef. These changes made it more like the chili I make. Will make this again.

Southern Dirty Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2008
This was really good! I had dirty rice in a cajun restaurant at Bricktown in Oklahoma City and wanted a reciped that tasted like theirs. This one came very close. I followed others suggestions and made a substitute for the livers & gizzards using ground turkey and added a little ground pork sausage. I also added some Tony Chachere's creole seasoning. I didn't top with the green onion, as I had none. I will make this again.

Lemon Cream Pasta with Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2008
I'm a huge fan of pasta dishes and this is now one of my favorites with out a doubt. You get the satisfaction of a cream sauce with out the heaviness. I followed the directions for making the pasta as the recipe called for but I changed the chicken instuctions. I sauteed the chicken until cooked through with a clove or two garlic, splash of white wine and chunk of butter (EVOO would be find too,) then added asparagus pieces, and sliced mushrooms. Mixed the pasta and chicken together, added the cream and a handful of shredded romano cheese for extra flavor. It was fantastic! My husband doesn't care for pasta and if he does eat pasta it's never a cream sauce... and he loved this. I was shocked! Mine did lack "color" but that's just because I don't care for most veggies that would have added color. ANY VEGGIES would work with this recipe. Just customize it to your liking.

Scrambled Egg Brunch Bread

Reviewed: May 18, 2008
I made this for a breakfast at church and it was well received. I followed luv2run's advice and made it the day before and froze it. It only took 35 minutes to bake since it was only frozen for 7-8 hours. It looked and tasty great! I will definately make it again with variations. This would make a great dessert bread using apple pie (or other fruit) filling and after baking, add a glaze. Thanks Julie for sharing this wonderfully easy, yet elegant bread!
