Blue Ribbon Overnight Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2005
I have many roll recipes that I love but this one was so unusual I wanted to try it. After reading previous reviews which seem to be a combination of love or hate these rolls, I wasn't sure what to expect. They came out light and airy with a heavy yeast taste for me..which we loved. The dough was a joy to work with and the rolls turned out beautiful. I made 16 large crecent rolls and I think this dough would make fabulous cloverleaf rolls which I plan to try next time.

Sarah's Salsa

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2005
I tweaked this just a bit to meet our tastes but it was pretty darn good before the tweaking. I drained much of the liquid from the tomatoes w/chilies and used 2 cans. I also cut the cilantro to a couple of tablespoons because it has such a strong taste. We like a bit of heat to our salsa so I used 2 large jalapenos and about 1/4 tsp of Tabasco sauce. Added some salt and black pepper ....man oh man this is GOOD! I had planned to freeze half of it but I don't think its going to last that long! Using food processor for chopping and then throwing it all in the blender, this was ready in about 10 minutes.

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: May 22, 2005
These make perfect loaves for garlic bread/toast. I slice in about 2" thick slices, lay the slices out on cookie sheets and spread each slice with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt. Then I pop the sheets in the freezer until completely frozen. After frozen, the slices can be stored in the freezer in zipper bags. Then you can heat or toast as many as you need for each meal. Its soooo yummy!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: May 21, 2005
I have made this so many times but kept forgetting to review it! This has turned into our end of the week, use up all the left overs in the fridge meal. The veggies vary from week to week and sometimes I use beef instead of chicken, just sub beef broth instead of the chicken broth. Always turns out delicious and uses up those little bits of leftover veggies that I would usually throw away. Thanks for the great recipe Roberta!

Southwestern Egg Rolls

Reviewed: May 21, 2005
Not a big fan of black beans so used ranch style instead and wrapped in egg roll wrappers instead of tortillas. These turned out so tasty. They were served with sour cream, salsa & guacamole to dip them in. yummmm! We have a lot of Tex-Mex and SW food and these will be a welcome addition to our menus.

Tomato Soup I

Reviewed: May 16, 2005
I've never been a fan of tomato soup so seldom have any in the pantry. When grilled cheese and tomato soup was requested for dinner, I came to AllRecipes to see what I could find. I substituted a large can of crushed tomatoes for the diced and used 1 cup of evaporated milk instead of cream and it turned out delicious but was a tad sweet. Next time I'll cut the sugar in half. The whole family loved it. I liked it so much that I had it for lunch the next two days. This recipe changed me from a tomato soup hater into a tomato soup lover!

Cottage Dill Bread

Reviewed: May 16, 2005
I had some cottage cheese nearing exp date and found this recipe to use it up. I used chives instead of onions and dill weed instead of seeds and turned out so pretty. It got thumbs up all the way around the table. I'm planning to make another loaf tomorrow to use up the rest of the cottage cheese. I don't have a bread machine so I just used traditional mixing, kneading and rising methods.

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: May 1, 2005
I've tried several pizza sauces and didn't care for any of them. Then I ran across this recipe and we loved it! I cut the Parmesan cheese to 1T and left out the anchovy paste and it turned out delicious. It is easy to make and makes enough for two good size pizzas. I can stop looking for a good pizza sauce recipe. Thanks Angie!

Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2005
This recipe is what convinced me to buy a Bosch mixer instead of another well known brand. I'll always be thankful to J. Drury for that because I love my mixer. The recipe itself makes very nice loaves that slice easily. I use white whole wheat instead of regular and the bread turns out lighter in taste and color than regular whole wheat and very yummy. I try a lot of bread recipes but there's always a loaf or two of this in the bread box for our sandwiches. It's very good made with honey instead of brown sugar too!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
I added 2T of sourdough starter to this just for the taste and I don't own a breadmachine so I made them by hand. They turned out very nicely! I want to add a little whole wheat flour next time. They puffed up perfectly and were excellent to stuff with chicken fajatia and guacamole!

Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2005
When we had unexpected guest for dinner, I had to find something I could make with ingredients on hand. I had everything to make this except the frozen hashbrowns so I grated fresh potatoes in the food processor and used them. It turned out delicious! In fact, it was so good that our guests took the leftovers home with them!! Thanks Bea, this one's a keeper.

Breakfast Kolaches

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2005
Being a Houston Texas girl, I didn't realize that Kolaches were a regional treat. I thought everyone was able to enjoy this delicious breakfast food until I read these reviews. The Kolaches from this recipe taste just as good as the ones from my favorite Kolache shop. We wrap the dough around lil smokies and sometimes cheese stuffed jalapenos. They're the best breakfast or midnight snack that you'll ever find! I don't have a bread machine so I just make them as I would any other yeast bread..they turn out fantastic!

Schlotsky's Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2005
This bread has the exact texture as Schlotsky's. I use 3/4 tsp salt for my personal taste. I've found that when I skip the cornmeal, the bread sticks to the pan so don't skip the cornmeal! This makes a delicious replacement for cornbread with a bowl of beans. Yummmm!

Cake Mix Cookies VII

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2005
Having a cold and not being in the mood to bake, I looked for the quickest cookie recipe I could find. I used a confetti cake mix that had been long forgotten in the back of the pantry and 2 cups of swirl chips with 1/2 cup of pecans. I also left out the baking powder because I couldn't find it at the time. These came out surprisingly well! Actually a very tasty cookie. Made them yesterday and they're still soft this morning. I think this will be an excellent recipe for my grandaughter's first "by herself" cookies to bake.

Baked Oatmeal I

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2005
My family members are oatmeal haters so I didn't think they'd eat this recipe. Granddaughter didnt gobble it down but she did at least eat it. On the other hand, I loved it. Yum yum yum..I've never much cared for the texture of hot oatmeal but this is more like a cookie in a bowl. I tried it with milk over it and without milk. Loved it both ways! Looking forward to my morning oatmeal tomorrow morning. I used 1/4 c white suger and 1/2 c of brown sugar. I also mixed the cinnamon up with the other dry ingredients instead of sprinkling it on top. It was sooooo good!

Mama D's Italian Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2005
I mixed up this dough with the intention of making some pizzas to put in the freezer. I made one test pizza using 1/3 of the dough. Even tho it came out looking beautiful, the crust was too tough and chewy. The remaining 2/3rds of the dough sat in my fridge in a ziplock bag for 3 days before I got around to making one large loaf and baking it. Mostly I just did it to get it out of my fridge. I expected to end up throwing the bread away because after all, it had been neglected and chilled for 3 days. To my surprise, it turned out to be delicious. We're having the last of the loaf as warm garlic bread tonight. I'm looking forward to making this recipe again..as bread, not pizza dough!

Sourdough Tomato Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2005
This bread surprised me. I was expecting that I wouldn't like it because I hate V-8 juice. It's got an amazing chewy crunchy crust with a mild soft inner bread..it is fabulous. Next time, I'm going to try it with some cheese and herbs mixed in. I make bread several times a week and this one has jumped up near the top of my favorite list. Absolutely love it!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2005
I have a white bread recipe that I've been very happy with but I've seen so many great reviews for this Amish bread that I wanted to give it a try. I added four tablespoons of buttermilk powder and left everything else the same. It turned out delicious!! We had it fresh from the oven last night. Made toast for breakfast this morning and Texas toast to go with our spaghetti tonight. This makes a simple bread that can be used so many way..and the taste and texture is fantastic. Thank you Peg, loved it!

Chocolate Pudding Fudge Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2005
This cake is definitely for the chocolate lovers. My family loved it. I wasn't quite as impressed as they were. I thought the texture was too fudgy. It took a good 75-80 minutes for this cake to bake and it wasn't overdone. I made two small "taster cakes" for my granddaughter and her friend (using mini bundt pans), if I had used the full amount of batter in my bundt pan, it would have overflowed. The glaze was delicious and I will use it again on other cakes. It was a good cake, just not the type that is my favorite.

Chicken Pot Pie II

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2005
This had such a good taste. I cut slightly frozen chicken breasts in cubes before I boiled it. I also added some cubed potatoes & sliced carrots in the water with the chicken. Didn't have any frozen veggies so used green beans, mushrooms and corn (as well as the potatoes & carrots). Used top & bottom crust and it turned out beautiful and delicious. Next time we're in the mood for pot pie, this will be my recipe. Thanks Corwynn for a wonderful recipe.
