I've been making this pie for a few years now. I like to vary the vegetables and meat depending on what I have on hand. I've made it with leftover turkey, sausage and lamb roast. In summer, it's a perfect brunch meal with a salad; in winter, add a loaf of homemade bread for a great dinner.

No need to slave over the stove to prepare a delicious jambalaya! Toss the chicken, sausage, shrimp, vegetables, and seasonings in the slow cooker, and forget about it until dinner time. All you need to do is prepare the rice and serve it up.

This recipe makes a sweet dough that is perfect for fruit pies or tarts. A bit of sugar, an egg and vinegar make this dough different from the traditional, but the end result is pastry that is manageable and flaky. Try adding a bit of lemon zest if you 're feeling adventurous.

This large 9x13-inch crisp is made hearty with cooking oats mixed into its sweet crumbly topping. Underneath are all the lovely things that compliment apples -cinnamon, brown sugar and butter. Serve warm with rum raisin ice cream or a big dollop of freshly whipped cream.
