Simple Beef Short Ribs

The basics of this recipe came from my mom, and it was passed down to her from her mother and Oma. I changed it a little, and you can too. You can braise in basically any liquid you want. The short ribs come out so delicious and tender, and there is not an overwhelming sauce to overpower them.

This is a great recipe that I found in my Grandma's recipe book. Judging from the weathered look of this recipe card, this was a family favorite.

Mama's Tomato Gravy

Submitted by: M. Dommert
This dish is truly a taste of Louisiana Cajun Country. My mama made countless batches of biscuits and tomato gravy in her lifetime. I'm sure she learned to make this from her mother. This is the dish that puts my feet back under my mama's table. Serve with love over hot buttermilk biscuits along with bacon or sausage for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

Hermits with Wine

Submitted by: Bob Rand
Mom won five dollars for this recipe in 1933 which bought us groceries. Everyone who partakes asks for recipe. We learned of their keeping value only when she sent them to troops in Korea. Before that none of the cookies had lasted long enough for us to know if they kept well! Store separated by wax paper. Substitute dates for the raisins if desired.
