About me:
I work in tech support during the day. I do most of the cooking in our house each night. I only started getting serious about cooking around 5 years ago. I tend to shy away from "gourmet" items and stick with variations of classic or standard items. I enjoy straightforward food.

Cake with Buttercream Decorating Frosting

Reviewed on Nov. 16, 2009 by The Future Mrs. Berteau
*This reviews the frosting only* I was looking for a buttercream icing recipe to use consistently for the cakes I make as part of my side business. And this is it. When it is done, it taste like the center of an oreo. It is phenomenal. My fiance who doesn't even like buttercream (weird I know!) loved this! If you are looking for a buttercream to use, use this! And, note, like everyone else says, this make s HUGE batch of icing. I decorated an 11x15 cake with this and had just enough! (It was 2 layers and filled with a ganache) I originally put this with a chocolate cake and let me tell you, it tasted like a soft oreo. If you are looking for a standard recipe...use this...it's delicious.

Tiramisu II

Reviewed on Nov. 16, 2009 by The Future Mrs. Berteau
This was WONDERFUL! I made this for my MIL for her birthday and she raved about it! I did do some things differently and would do some things differently next time...and I promise, there will be a next time! The big change I made this time was to use less Rum. Most of my family drinks, but not often. And one of us doesn't drink at all because he doesn't like the taste of alcohol. So, I used half of the listed rum. I also followed all of the reviews and gave it 24 hours to set and when all was said and done...delicious! I can't wait to make it again. Next time though, I will use less rum again. I used 1/2 of the recommend rum this time and I would us 1/4 of what the recipe calls for next time. It was still too strong. Also, I would mix the whipped cream into the custard created. I will also add a little more sugar too, several people said it was just not quite sweet enough. Overall, a great recipe. I can't wait to make it again. (Really who doesn't like it when they can make the MIL happy?)
