German Chocolate Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
This pie was not the crowd pleaser I had hoped for some like it. No one loved it. One did not like the texture of it at all. Most likley will not make again.

These are delicious! They totally melt in your mouth! I didn't have any margarine, so I used butter instead. These will definitely make an encore in our house!

This is the best recipe I've found for pecan pie. The description "irrestible" is definitely a true statement.

Taco Seasoning Mix

This was a total life-saver. I did add a little more cumin directly to the meat mixture after adding the seasoning mix to the meat.

Banana Pudding I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
This was fantastic! I was looking for a banana pudding for Thanksgiving that tasted like Mom's. I doubled the recipe, as suggested by other reviewers. I still used an 8 x 8 pan and added two more bananas. Everyone love it! I will definately make this one again!

YUM! I now call these my evil cupcakes! You can't stop eating them. I did the yellow cake mix and chocolate frosting. They were a huge thanksgiving hit, not just with the kids but the adults too!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

My husband didn't think I should make this, thought no one would like it. I made it anyway and everyone Loved it! He had 3 helpings. I did add more than 1/4 t. celery seed (more like 1/2 t). Very good - and it looked good too.

Slow Cooker Split Pea Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I REALLY hate to do this but I cannot possibly give this a better rating. I read all of the other reviews VERY carefully and used broth instead of cubes and WAY less water. If you would have used the water it called for I can't even imagine how watery it would be? I also had to add a lot more seasoning and however the taste was good in the end, it came out very thin and their were no peas left but only a few clumps of green mush. I won't even go into how I tried to remedy it but it didn't work either. I really don't know what to say except one would have to use just a few cups of broth only, more seasoning, and alot less cooking time for it to come out okay? I was anxious to try this and had been planning it for weeks and I am very sorry I had to rate so poorly.

Sweet Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
This Thanksgiving was the first time I've ever made sweet potatoes this way and this recipe did not disappoint. The potatoes were wonderfully light and fluffy, and it was great to find this out during a meal where most o f the foods are heavier and more filling! Great stuff! This is a keeper and is going in my Holiday Favorites!

Dill Pickle Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
I am giving this a five due to the creativity, the uniqueness of it, the overall easy preperation, and the wonderful flavor combination that made it have its own exotic taste. I did change of a few things yes but with the exception of the 4 tsps. of onion salt, I think the recipe would be very tasty as written. I boiled some peeled diced potatoes in chicken stock as I browned about a half of pound of ground beef and then later added both to the soup ( I like a more hearty soup). I used more pickles and juice and even left some of my pickles in bigger hunks because I really wanted to taste the pickles. VERY good and very unique and even though this is not a soup I would want on a weekly basis, I will be making it over and over throughout the years. Oh, also thought I'd mention that for me 2 tablespoons of butter was not enough to whisk a 1/2 cup of flour but that might have just been me. Pretty simple fix to just keep adding butter until you get your flour smooth but thought I'd mention it in case anyone had any troubles there. Thank you for the most unusual soup this soup loving gal has ever tried!

Chicken Fried Steak I

Just fixed this for my extended family. I followed the recipe exactly except I used 6 cubes steaks. They LOVED it and I was quite impressed on how it turned out. I will FOR SURE be making this again. It's now a favorite on my dinner spinner app.

Warm Greek Pita Sandwiches With Turkey and Cucumber-Yogurt Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
My husband told me he would rather I had made soup. In my opinion, it was bland and only ok. The only thing that saved it is I kept slathering on more and more yogurt sauce. Everything else was barely decent and the whole meal was rather bland.

Never, Never Fail Pie Pastry

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
Used this recipe for Thanksgiving Pumpkin pies and it was very good. I remember my mom using lard for wonderful pie crust when I was growing up and wanted to try it myself. Made a very good crust. I did add just a tiny bit more flour but it came out wonderfully. I thought maybe next time I might use 1/2 butter and see how that works. It made a very flaky crust for me.

Turkey Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
I'm giving it a 4 because as written I think it would be dull. I used the Unlce Ben's original wild rice as another review suggested and used the 23 herb seasoning packet that came with it instead of the salt and chicken poultry seasoning. I also used carrots, celery, and mushrooms but only because I prefer some subtance in the cream. This was an excellent meal and VERY filling. I will make this often!

Caribbean-Spiced Pork Side Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I made these for our traditionally untradtional thanksgiving this year and good rave reviews. I made three racks for 7 people and only had enough left over for two plates to send home. The flavor was fantastic, they weren't dry, the lime flavor snuck in but didn't overwhelm, the ginger stood out and the rest blended very nicely. Everyone was pleasently full. The meal was ended with jamaican plantain tarts, also from this site and ......... My best friend made the carribean holiday shrimp and the hard do bread for our appetizer and bread while my adopted little sister made the jamaican rice (also from this site) as a side dish as well. The meal was fantastic and every bit of it was from this site! THANKS AGAIN ALLRECIPES.COM!

Black Friday Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I did this (pretty much) last year, and am looking forward to doing it again this afternoon. My recipe is a little different, and may help the reviewer that mentioned she'd have liked the potatoes to be a little crustier. I put the stuffing in the bottom for the crust, and then did the potatoes on top (sort of like a Shepherd's Pie). Also, all of our green beans always get eaten (I use the Green Beans and Cherry Tomatoes recipe here), so I usually throw in a bag of frozen mixed veggies. It's all a great combo!

Cornucopia

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
So pretty! This really made the Thanksgiving centerpiece unique (and delicious) this year. We made a big platter with purple kale below it and surrounded it with mini pumpkins and gourds, and served bread rolls out of the cornucopia itself, then people were allowed to tear in to the horn when the rolls were gone. This was fun, easy, and a very inexpensive way to get a ton of compliments!

Potato Bread II

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
This is so darn good! I made mine with my kitchenaide mixer since I don't have a bread machine. Proofed the yeast with all of the water and the sugar for 20 mins. Placed yeast/water mixture in mixer bowl and slowly incorporated the dry ingredients. Worked like a charm. Let it rise first time 45 mins (it had doubled in size), then punched down and kneaded slightly. Formed into rolls (made 24) and placed in lightly greased baking pan. Baked for 25 mins at 350 degrees F. So very yummy! Thank you for the recipe Kathy.
