Great-Aunt Nina's Noodles and Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2008
I loved this because it was so easy. Added canned mushrooms and frozen peas during while the noodles boiled, used store-bought egg noodles and the addition of lots of spices at the end made it delicious!

Mmmm! This is a fantastic recipe. A perfect compliment to spaghetti. I added extra Italian seasoning (it's a spice mixture that we love). I don't know who Jo is but she rocks!

Very good. It certainly didn't give me warm & fuzzies like I was expecting, but the flavor was tasty.

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
This was great. Cooked it on low for about 12 hours and it fell apart & the flavor was delicious. Threw some baby carrots and cabbage in with it, had NO left-overs. But...that's always a good sign.

Flavor was great. Honestly, this was the first time I have cooked thighs before since I'm a white meat girl. AND...I found out pretty quick that dark meat is not my favorite! LOL. Will try this again with chicken breasts.

Broccoli Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
This was totally delicious. BUT, it's not nearly enough food for a family of four. I would suggest doubling it unless you are using it as a side dish. Also, I'm definitely going to add some rice to it next time for a complete meal. Like others, I just mixed everything together prior to baking (including shredded cheese) and then dumped it in the pan.

Crusty Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2008
For some reason, my bread was a little soggy on the bottom. I agree with everyone that this is not cornbread. It's also not the typical bread that comes out of my bread machine. It's some kind of weird hybrid. If you keep in mind that it's suppose to have essence of cornbread, it's not bad. Otherwise it's a big disappointment. It takes more like hush puppy batter without all the good mix-in's. Next time I think I'll add more sugar. If there is a next time.

This is dangerously delicious and easy. It has a potent smell and taste of honey. Very good! Next time I think I'll substitute some of the flour with wheat flour.

Family Favorite Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
This recipe does have a sourdough like taste, but of course, it's not as good as the real thing. It didn't rise as much as I expected, and I thought it was a flop when I first looked at it. However, it ended up being a dense, tasty bread. Easy to slice up for sandwiches. Great way to use leftover sour cream!

Amish Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
This is a pretty good basic recipe. It's not my favorite, but it's a good go-to. I also like that it doesn't require a lot of yeast. *I'd like to add that 18 tablespoons is 1 cup + 2 tbsps. A previous review incorrectly identified it as 3/4 cups.

Bulgur Wheat with Dried Cranberries

We thought this was a great recipe. Like many other reviewers, I used chicken broth. Next time I think I'll try added some onion and maybe parsley or cilantro. Still, its great the way it is. ETA: I added onion and parsley with my second go around. It was awesome. My husband loved it!

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
I love quiche. I love spinach. BUT, this was WAY too much spinach in this quiche. Gag! Maybe my quantities were off, I don't know. I even added scallions and black olives and the spinach totally overwhelmed the flavor and texture. This is definately a recipe that I can work with, and the "crustless" factor is excellent for my South Beach lifestyle.

Sausage Stuffed Jalapenos

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
OMG. I guess I'm used to the "poppers" you buy at the store and order as an appetizer at a restaurant. These are the real deal & they are incredibly spicy, unlike the others. I had to eat 3 popsicles in a row to put out the fire!! LOL. I like spicy food, but this was way beyond desirable. Will not be making again.

Gingery Carrot Salad

Very good! Dh loved it. Personally, I thought it had a tad too much cinnamon, but I'm not a big cinnamon fan. This is definitely a keeper. I think I'll probably make the dressing (w/ less cinnamon) for green salads too.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2008
I thought this was a great slaw. I grew up in the deep south, and southern-style food is a big deal there. If you do it wrong, especially a staple like cole slaw, they'll let you know by not eating it off their plate! I made this and thought it was perfect...didn't use poppy seeds (didn't have any). But the onion gives it a nice added flavor to it, and I added about 1/2 tsp more vinegar for more tart, used olive oil instead of veg oil, and I love the end result. Made this to put on top of homemade bbq pulled pork I'm making in my crockpot today. I can't wait to top my bbq pork sandwich with this. TRUE southerners add cole slaw to the top of their bbq pork, in a sandwich. The combination of the creamy/tart flavor with your bbq pork sandwich is simply delicious! Thanks for the recipe, I'll be holding onto this one. A True Southerner's Stamp of Approval!
