Viennese Torte

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2007
This tasted fantastic, looked beautiful, is a bit different, and was not too difficult to make - what more could you ask for in a recipe?! Took it to a German themed potluck dinner and all enjoyed it. Only difficulty was in getting the wax paper off the bottom of the cake while keeping the top (the meringue part) from cracking into pieces. I wound up running a long handled knife between the cake and the paper and then using 2 spatulas to transfer the cake to the serving plate -could have used a third hand! Served with a few raspberries, mainly for the color. I don't love packaged pudding mixes tho that part turned out ok; however next time I'll probably use my old family recipe for pudding. Also next time I might sub almond extract for the vanilla in the cake base.

Catherine's Spicy Chicken Soup

This soup was really good. I halved the recipe and still had a huge pot full. I also left out the whole tomatoes. It was a perfect dinner for a cold night.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2007
This was a wonderful recipe! I didn't make any changes (but I did season the fish first) and it was delicious. The only thing I will change next time is to add some bread crumbs like suggested to keep the topping from melting off. This is definitely a keeper!

Party Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2007
Loved this soup - perfect on a cold rainy night! I added a couple of tablespoons of pesto to the meatballs - they were fantastic. Used a 48oz can and 2 14oz cans of broth - might just use 2 large cans next time as the flavor was plenty intense enough to handle the extra liquid. Next time would NOT use chopped spinach as it made the pot look like it was covered in grass clippings! (Using regular and chopping it myself would give a much better look to the dish. The accompanying photos definitely do not have chopped greens in them.) Definitely going into the rotation - wonderful flavor.

Cajun Appetizer Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2006
Had a party with way too much food - this was the only thing that was completely gone at the end of the night. Fantastic!!! Made three times the recipe and wound up with 90 appetizer size servings. Next time will probably add even a little more of the cajun spice and cholula sauce. (As much as I liked this as an appetizer, it seems to me that it would be awfully sweet as a main course.)

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2006
Made this for a holiday dinner party - a festive and delicious addition to the table. I added some slices of fuyu persimmons and kiwi - the colors of both were really pretty and they tasted great along with the other parts of the salad (and they are winter fruits). Used toasted pecans rather than cashews and did not use the cheese (too much for this dinner). Tossed the greens with about a third of the dressing, plated that, and then put a scoop of fruit and a few nuts on top of each plate - easy, attractive and everyone loved it!

Sweet Corn Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
Made these as mini-muffins for a soup party. Made them a week ahead and froze them - turned out great, probably due to the sour cream. Doubled the recipe and got 6 dz. Not as sweet as I expected - but that was ok. Like a previous reviewer about half of the corn meal I used was not ground fine (used what I had)and they turned out a bit gritty - and while that was ok I would prefer to use a finer grind next time.

we made the recipe by the book, but i found it to be a lil thick. I added two cups of chicken stock to it, let it simmer for a while longer, added a lil extra salt n pepper and it was delicious!

OK i juuust made this. The reviews said it might seem a lil bland so i added two extra cloves of garlic, (i doubled the servings too btw) a tablespoon of black pepper, maybe a teaspoon of powdered onion, and about an extra half cup of cheese. This is sooo yummy. Ill definitely make this again!!

we looooved this recipe. Afterwards we had some leftovers so the next day i put the extra steak into the slow cooker along with some beef stock, carrots, celery, and some potatoes. The soup was better than the steaks!! Our family loved both
