Individual Beef Wellingtons

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Wow, what a delightful dish. I often serve filet for special meals, and this added that special touch to make it fun and different. The flavors are classic combinations, and the recipe works well exactly as written. The meat was so flavorful and tender - the cooking times were accurate. However, I have made some variations for fun on some occasions - I've added feta to the paste mixture, and I've swapped shallits for onion

Gulliver's Cream Corn

What a great side dish! I used 2% milk instead of cream, and I thought it tasted very rich. I can't wait to break this out at Christmas :)

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
For some reason, this recipe came out watery, and the cream cheese never seemed to melt properly in the mixture. It was more like cream cheese clumps in a watery stew. Maybe cream would have worked better. It just didn't work for me.

Jerre's Black Bean and Pork Tenderloin Slow Cooker Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Delicious! The house smelled amazing when I got home from work. Like many reviewers, I used pork loin instead of tenderloin. When you are slow cooking like this, you can often use cheaper cuts of meat, since the low and slow heat tenderizes just about anything. Even after shredding the pork, I felt the consistency was more like a stew than a chili, but I was actually happier with that result.

Praline Pumpkin Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
OMG, this is delicious. I didn't have light cream so I used 3/4 c. of heavy cream and 1/4 c. skim milk and it worked fine. Also didn't have mace so I just omitted it. I had no probs with it firming up and the added praline mixture on the bottom is to die for. I don't think I'll make a traditional pumpkin pie again. Thanks for such a delicious recipe!!

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
I don't think you could fairly call this spicy, at least not in my book. I added jalapenos, onions, and crushed red pepper and it still wasn't as hot as I had hoped. It is definitely sweet and sticky. It has a flavor reminiscent of teriyaki chicken. It's good and I'll probably make it again for my husband. He loved it but it was a tad too sweet for me.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
This was so delicious. I accidentally forgot to add the oil to the dough, but the pretzels turned out great anyway. As suggested by many reviewers, I brushed the baked pretzels with salted butter after they came out of the oven. I made a variety - plain, garlic and honey. All were excellent. The baking soda bath makes the final product nice and brown. Great for football games!!

Scrumptious Frosted Fudgy Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
Wow!! Celeste gave me this recipe on the exchange well before it was published but I was secretly terrified of it, thinking I'd burn the chocolate and make an utter mess. Why, oh, why did I not make these months ago?!? They are too die for and my idiot self even only added 1/2 a c. of butter to the batter instead of a full cup. I can only imagine how good they'd be with a full cup. Make sure you follow the directions with the icing. The icing alone tastes like a delicious rich brownie batter. I'll be making these for years to come. Thanks for a real winner, Celeste!!

Mushroom Orzo

Great recipe! I loved the earthy, rich flavor. And it was a one dish recipe! I halved the butter. It stuck a tiny little bit at the end, but the flavor and texture was there. Also, I didn't have pearl onions, so I thinly sliced a white onion and it was fine.

Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
I thought it was a very tasty soup. I used a food processor (since I didn't have a blender handy), and I thought it added too much air to the soup. Next time, I will use a food mill. Substituted rosemary for the marjoram.

Caribbean Zucchini Bread

Delish and I'm sure it will even better when I get rid of this cold and can taste it more. LOL. I did have to use 3 cups of all purpose flour b/c I didn't have any whole wheat but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I'm wondering has anyone tried using a cup of the pineapple sauce they make instead of applesauce? That may make it taste more like a pina coloda. Yum!!

Delicious. I made this with fresh dill from the garden, and it was very refreshing on a hot summer day. I served with fresh baked bread. Yum. I substituted sour cream for the mayonnaise, and it was light and creamy.
