Hot Toddy

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
It did nothing for my stuffy nose but after drinking the hotty toddy (and no I'm not drunk and I do know how to spell the title of this drink), I sure didn't care about it. Goodnight ya'll! Oh wait. I did modify after tasting the final results, which tasted like watered down whiskey. I made hot tea and combined the 2 drinks.

Pumpkin Seed Beer Brittle

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Let me first state 5 things: 1. This was my first time to make brittle. 2. I can't make candy. 3. I'm not big on eating pumpkin seeds. 4. I'm not a big fan of brittle because it sticks to my teeth. 5. My kids can't handle hot/spicy food so I decreased the cayenne pepper to just a sprinkling...... Ever since I saw this recipe on the Exchange, I thought it was too unique to not at least try it once. Also, I had about 2 cups of pumpkin seeds left from Halloween pumpkins and I found a bottle of dark beer so this was a perfect recipe for me. The final result was very tasty. I did dry the brittle a little thick (since I wasn't sure how thinnly it should have spread out) so most of it was brittle texture and the rest was more of a "soft crack" brittle. My husband loved all of it. My kids loved all of it. Finally, I loved the "soft crack" brittle and it was soft enough for my 1 year old daughter. Since I used a whole cup of pumpkin seeds and didn't spread the brittle thin enough, I did have a lot of pumpkin seeds left on the pan (which was my fault completely since this is my first time to make brittle candy). BRAVO SUEB ON A GREAT RECIPE! I might take some to my MIL's to share, that is if we don't eat it all my Christmas Eve. :)

A different taste from the same old Ranch but I really enjoyed it. Next time, I think I will leave out the onions and just put some on husband's salad. Served with cabbage soup, "Russian Dipping Sauce," "Traditional Russian Pirozhki," "Instant Russian Tea," and "Russian Tea Cakes III."

Apricot-Glazed Cornish Hens

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
I love Cornish Game Hens and was looking forward to trying a recipe with an Apricot Glaze. Overall the flavors were a nice blend,,, but , I expected a crunchier, crispier skin finish...and it was a bit soggy. I even baked the hens longer than suggested to achieve that golden crust...but it just didn't happen for us. It was OK served with wild rice and a green salad. Honestly. I like the results better for a rotissirie method of cooking for poultry. This was alittle disapointing...but has the potential for a wonderful combination if cooked a different way.

Instant Russian Tea

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
I only made 6 servings. Made as directed with 3 teaspoonful of mix and boiling water. After tasting the final result, I wasn't too pleased so I added a T of sugar to my cup. Tasted the modified result and it tasted really good. Even my 5 year old daughter said, "Its good!" Served with cabbage soup, "Russian Dipping Sauce," "Traditional Russian Pirozhki," "Russian Garden Salad," and "Russian Tea Cakes III."

Husband said he has tasted better but his favorite cookies are Snickerdoodles. Therefore, he is very particular to the point of being an _______! I think next time I make this, I'm going to try 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar.

This was really good. Soft and tender pork beaten into submission! I did use freshly dried bread crumbs which I think made a more tasty and fresh dish. The gravy was excellent but the rest of my family didn't like it. Served with "Green Bean and Bacon Saute" and mashed taters.

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Great recipe!! I followed the advice of another user and I didn't beat the ingredients with a mixer at all. In fact I only used one bowl--mixed the PB and butter then added the sugars, followed by the eggs and vanilla (used 1 tbl), then the dry ingredients. I used a cupcake pan and made 12 cupcakes at 325 for about 20 min. Thanks for submitting!

Southern Coleslaw

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Far beyond the scope of grocery store coleslaw. I wanted this to go with a pork BBQ, and it fits the bill perfectly with my favorite barbeque sauce. Definitely different, though I agree with the review that tells to add celery seed. I added carrots and a little minced red onion to the mix as well.

Cranberry Hootycreeks

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
These are delicious cookies and a nice change from all the traditional cookies. I have give the jarred mix as gifts, and I have made them for work and friends. They are always well received. **A couple of pointers: either use unsalted butter or omit the salt from the recipe. I might even decrease the salt just a tad. I prefer these cookies to be golden brown around the edges and on top. They taste better when slightly crunchy. In my oven, it takes 13 minutes on 350 to get them perfect. Also, they don't spread very much so you can space them about an inch apart. I highly recommend these cookies :)

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
Excellent, spicy and fresh chicken wings. So easy to do. I do understand that these may not be authentic, but for the vast majority of the U.S. these are what is considered 'buffalo chicken wings'. I made it with fresh Maytag blue cheese dressing, celery and hot dogs with mustard. Unbelievable.

Hot Spiced Cider

This tasted really good. I didn't have whole spices so I used half of everything since I had only ground spices. Made 8 servings and used 2 Tblsp brown sugar, 1/8 tsp ground allspice, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, a dash of ground cinnamon, 1/8 tsp salt, a pinch of ground nutmeg, 1 clementine, and 4 cups of homemade apple cider.

Philippine-Made Sugar Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
Top Notch! A friend's wife sent sugar cookies to my work, and left me with a hankering for more. I did not have any chocolate, so after researching, I substituted a mixture of cocoa powder, sugar and shortening. I can honestly say that for a 24 year old guy, it's easy to make these cookies, and they're very enjoyable.
