David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
My boyfriend wanted a yellow cake with chocolate frosting so I had to find the perfect recipe! I am very pleased with this recipe and will use it from now on when I need a yellow cake! I scaled the recipe to 4 servings and baked it in a small cake pan. It was perfect for 2 people to have a couple of servings !

Momma's Wine Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
I have never tried a wine cake, but it sounded interesting. This is very good! I'm eating some right now. I used cooking spray in the pan and used the cinnamon-sugar. This gave a nice crispy crust on it. (I also added 1 tsp. of cinnamon, just because we love cinnamon.) The crunchy crust in combination with the soft, tender center was a nice contrast. The wine added a very slight background flavor. This recipe could be the springboard for many variations. It really does scream for the addition of fruit & sauce of any favorite flavor, and I would highly recommend planning on adding it.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
excellent recipe! I would make more spice rub. the amount the recipe calls for was barely enough for 3 breasts. Also, the butter-oil sauce dries up as the chicken cooks, so I would add more butter and oil as needed.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2009
I LOVE this recipe! I added some crushed rosemary to mine. I also added melted butter to the egg wash instead of water. To those that are hand kneading the bread just use a little olive oil on your hands instead of adding more flour. And please for the love of bread use BREAD FLOUR lol! A++ recipe !

Easy Decadent Truffles

ZOMG ! How on earth have I gone my entire life without making these until now LOL!?! The possibilities of this recipe are endless! I added Boca Java Chocolate Hazelnut Heaven coffee to flavor mine. I rolled some in powdered sugar, some in cocoa and the rest I dipped in melted chocolate. I used Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate. I plan to experiment further next time. I will let ya know what I come up with!

Cheesy Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
We really liked this recipe. Simple, easy, and flavorful. Just the way we like it. The only differences I did was to cube the potatoes instead of slice them (much easier to stir later), and to sprinke on the cheese after the stir instead of in the beginning, so it was nicely layered on the potatoes. This one will go into regular rotation!

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Meatballs only: very good. I would add more seasoning for taste i.e onion powder, salt, and more garlic. I would never have thought to cook them in the sauce. I use canned sauce, despite everyone's claim that the sauce is so good. I have found canned sauce, when added to, is quite delicious.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
Wonderful! I making this now once again for a 4th BBQ. I like sweet pie so I toss the apples in cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg before i fill my crusts. I have tried it without and it's still wonderful. I sometimes make the sauce for my kids to dip fruit in, my daughter loves to eat the cinnamon sugar apples with the sauce as well as bananas. The sauce is great to cook bananas in to top pancakes or waffles.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

I have tried this quite a few times, i have found what works for me. I keep it covered the entire time add a little more garlic (I love garlic) and salt and pepper. I add the cheese and broil it until the cheese browns. My son loves it and will eat the whole pan all by himself.

Garlic Basil Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Very good recipe! The flavor was very good. Not overpowering, just a yummy background. The only changes I made were to use fresh minced garlic rather than the powder, plus I added about 1/2 tsp. of horseradish. Since smooth, non-lumpy mashed potatoes are a sacrilege in our house, I combined the ingredients in a bowl, plopped them on top of the hot cooked potatoes and hand mashed. This one's going in my cookbook for regular rotation. Thanks for sharing it!

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Has a good flavor, although maybe a little too much flour flavor. Kinda crumbly, too. Mine are cooling right now. The first one I tried was still warm and crumbled a bit. But they do melt in your mouth. I added almond extract for extra flavor and extra sugar too.
