Greek Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
4 stars for taste. The dough is so sticky it was hard to make shapes. I made a few S's and J's for my name and my husband and son's names. Those were hard enough. I made the rest into ball shapes. I even tried the powdered sugar on my hands trick that others mentioned, but that really didn't help much. It's just a very sticky dough. I might try a cake decorating tool next time.

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
I just finished making these for Xmas about 2 hours ago; as Pecan Pie is my husband and Uncle's favorite. My husband said this is by far better than the pie itself. Like other reviewers I did 3/4 C of sugar and 3/4 C of brown sugar instead of the 1 1/2 C of sugar like a traditional pie would call for. I will most definitely keep this recipe going for many winter holidays to come.

Angie's Perfect Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
These are so delicious, soft, and buttery just the way dinner rolls should be. I will definitely make these again. As the other reviewers have mentioned you do need about a 1/2 cup to cup of extra flour.

German Chocolate Birthday Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
This is sooo good. And the directions are easy to follow. This was the very first cake I made from scratch. I made it for my husband's birthday while we were dating. Obviously, this cake does wonders. haha. :D And my whole family LOVED it. The only part I was confused about was trimming it but I'm probably just ditzy so I left it poofy on top. It's still yummy so I guess it doesn't matter.

Smothered Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
The first time I cooked this, I followed the recipe exactly. It was good then but a little bland. Tonight, I switched it up a little. First, I browned the pork chops (Center Cut Pork Loin was what I had in the freezer.) The chops were seasoned with Tony Chachere's, black pepper, celery powder, and garlic powder. (I didn't have any fresh garlic on hand.) After browning the chops, I put them aside and sauted the onion and a green bell pepper. Then I put the chops in and followed the rest of the recipe. The brown gravy mix I used is the Tony Chachere's brown gravy mix. The seasoning and the brown gravy powder added just the right amount of spice to the gravy and pork chops. I served it with French Bread, corn on the cob, and rice. The family loved it and my husband raved. Will definitely make it again.

Grandma's Cranberry-Orange Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
This was better than I thought it was going to be. Mmmmm! I will definitely be making this every year. :D....ok I reviewed this last year when I didn't have any guests over and just wanted to update. I made it again this year and I'm the ONLY one who ate any of it. Maybe I'll cut the recipe in half next time and eat it all myself. Not for people with texture issues or (duh) don't like cranberries. I still think it's yummy though.

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
The enchiladas were very tasty but the recipe was more time consuming than it said. Maybe it was just me, though. We didn't really like all the onion in it either even though I cut it down to half of what was called for. I will probably try to make this again without so much onion, and maybe let it simmer longer.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
This was so delicious, moist and flavorful. Instead of slicing the bananas as others have mentioned I mashed about 4-5 bananas, and substituted walnuts (as I didn't have any on hand) for pecans...I brought this to a brunch and they were an instant hit. Also since there was an abundance as I doubled the recipe, I placed this in a bundt pan and sliced them once cooled to indivdiual servings.

Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Move over Chopsticks and Pei Wei there's a new dish in town... We had a party last night and I decided to make this with a side of Asian salad. I must say that this was by far better than any restaurant orange chicken. I added actually 1 1/2 cups of orange juice to the awaiting sauce (using 1/4 from the orange which we took the zest of) and allowed that to reduce nicely before marinating. After using half a portion of the sauce to marinate the chicken, when it was time to cook the chicken and make the orange glaze, I added two pinches of orange zest and a pinch more of red pepper flakes for that extra heat...And yes before adding the cornstarch dissolve in a few tablespoons of water first or else it will leave clumps. Everyone ravved about this and we had to print out the recipe to others. This is one recipe we will be keeping for many years to come. Thanks!

PHILLY Creamy Rice, Chicken and Spinach Dinner

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
I decided to try this because it sounded good to me. My husband wasn't too thrilled to try it because of all the spinach and tomatoes but absolutely loved it once he tried it. I used less spinach because it wouldn't all fit into my skillet. I also used a different dressing than called for: KRAFT tuscan italian. The commissary here didn't carry the other kind. It still came out fabulous. My husband scarfed it down and complimented it over and over. Great recipe.
