Chocolate Toffee Cookies II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Excellent. The kicker is the brownie like center with the crisp outside. I used pecans instead of almonds. I used the rum but am not sure it brought anything to the party and I will try kahlua next time. I doubled the recipe without any problems. This recipe will join my christmas cookie list.

Garlic Crab Artichoke Dip

Very good and easy to manipulate a bit. I used cream of chicken soup since I forgot to buy the mix, and just added some garlic powder and onion flakes. It was very good and was eaten right up!

Did NOT taste anything like Gooey Butter Cake to me! The recipe was pretty dry in mixing, like REALLY couldn't get it all mixed together. They tasted fine but weren't amazing.

I agree with M-M-M's review. I wasn't wowed by these at all. I think the Nestle Toll House recipe still wins out.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2009
AMAZING. i've made these several times and usually double the recipe because we eat so many. I took some advice from the other posts and use only half of the baking powder and let them sit for 10-15 minutes (after cutting, before baking) which makes them fluff up a lot without being too light. it is CRUCIAL that you have the sides touching and cook about 10 or 11 minutes. I usually turn the broiler on for a few seconds to get the nice slightly brown top. also, adding a little more sugar can be nice depending on your tastes.

Wonderful Banana Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
This is a super easy, quick, delicious banana cake recipe! I only made two changes. I used a butter cake mix instead of yellow and I did preheat the oven to 350 degrees and baked for 35 - 40 minutes. I also added one cup of chopped walnuts. I spooned about 2 T of the dry cake mix over them to coat them so they wouldn't sink in the batter. I added them after everything else was mixed as directed. I did not frost the cake. Served it with a little (or alot) whipped cream on top or just ate it plain. I thought it was better the longer it sat in the pan. Will make again. In fact, I've got 3 very ripe bananas in my kitchen calling to me now. Gotta go, time to bake!

Fudge

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
This is delectably creamy and smooth! I made this for a church function. I did double the batch and made as written except for the addition of vanilla extract as other suggested. Also, please be sure to use salted butter. I think the taste would be blah without that bit of salt in the butter. My Mom taught me a long time ago about adding a pinch of salt to sweet stuff to enhance the flavor. I don't know why it works. I just knows that that pinch of salts makes sweet things taste better. I put it in a 15" baking sheet (small jelly roll pan). Sprayed the pan with cooking oil then lined it with aluminum foil. Coated the aluminum foil with butter. I did use a 2-to-1 ratio with the chips, twice as much milk chocolate as semi-sweet. I also used Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips but Baker semi-chocolate because I already had them on hand. Start out with about 1 1/2 mins. in the microwave. Stir then another 1 1/2 mins. Then carefully add additional 45 seconds to 1 minute times, stirring after each. After the first 3 mins., start checking the true status of the "remaining" chips by squeezing one. You'll be able to tell when those last few chips are soft enough to finish meling. This will keep you from burning the chocolate. I did my mixer to beat the melted chocoate for about 2 minutes. Refrigerated overnight and then cut with a pizza cutter (what a great tip!) after removing from the pan and removing the aluminum foil. I guess I have to agree with the comments that this d

Taffy Apple Salad III

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2009
This salad was too rich for our family. Even though I used "Lite Cool Whip" and pineapple in it's natural juice--we (myself, my hubby, and my 5 & 6 year old grandaughters) found we could only eat very small servings. If I make it gain, I will try halfing the recipe.

i made two batches and both tasted good but very different! i think i may have let the peanuts burn the first time a little bit so i added the peanuts a little later on the second one and had a very nice color with a lighter texture. very fun to make :)

Blue Cheese Fried Potatoes

These potatoes were excellent! I fried them up while my husband grilled some burgers. I too waited 5-7 minutes before adding my onions and also used 5 oz bleu cheese. We enjoyed these a lot more than the regular potatoes and onions on the grill.

Good flavor. But too dry. Next time, I will add more cheeses, more half and half, and melt cheeses in the half and half. Plus, I will bake for only 20 mintues instead of 35 minutes.

Chicken and Dumplings III

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
I usually make most things from scratch but decided to give this a try after reading the positive reviews. Everything was okay tasting but had a store-bought, came-from-a-can quality about it (due to the condensed soup and packaged biscuits?). Or maybe it's because I can't do anything the easy way :) Good luck for everyone else though!
