Laurie's Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
I can't rate the recipe since I haven't made this recipe yet. I am curious why corn and potatoes (both starches) are baked in this pie. I think my British grandmother included peas or green beans and mash with no crust. Lamb was always used. This might be an American version. I will try it.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I recently got married, and my husband's favorite pie is Apple. Believe it or not, after cooking and baking for 35 years, I had never made an apple pie. I looked at lots of recipes, and read the reviews, but this one caught my eye, and I'm so glad that it did. I wanted to be able to make a pie as good as the ones his mother made. When I took this pie out of the oven, I was so impressed with the way that it looked and smelled. I couldn't wait to taste it. I did make a few changes, I had Gala apples on hand that needed to be used, so I used them, I had store bought pie crust, and used it, I suggested that next time I would try the Granny Smith apples, these were my husbands words......."I can't imagine the Granny Smith Apples making this pie any better than it already is, I would hate for it to not be as good as it is now, and I do believe that this is BETTER than what my mom used to make. Of course, if she were here, I couldn't tell her that." He raved to all of his friends and family about the Apple Pie, he thinks I'm a great cook, but the pie was "the bomb".......Thank you for sharing your grandmothers recipe with us, this will definitely be made often in our house.

Mini Pineapple Upside-Down Cakes

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
These little cakes were so easy to make, and they were a hit at our Holiday Progressive dinner in our neighborhood. I trimmed the pineapple slices like the recipe said, and they fit perfectly. I also added the cherry before baking. There are only 10 slices of pineapple in a 20 oz. can, so I added 2 slices from a small can of pineapples. Thanks Cindy for a wonderful recipe.

Cream Soup Base

I always have a hard time getting cream soup to thicken. Not with this recipe, it is so simple and tasty!!! I turned it into clam chowder by adding onion, celery, clams, potato, and hot sauce.

No Bake Cookies III

These are good, and there are a thousand different ways to make them. I prefer 4 level tbsp. cocoa powder and 1 c. of peanut butter. Definitely don't start counting your minute until it's at a full rolling boil. An old recipe book I have says not to stir during the minute of boiling, so I never do.

My Best Friend Linda McLean suggested I try this. I LOVE vinegar but this is too much. Reduce the sugar a little and the vinegar more, add a clove of garlic and you have a winner.

Lit'l Smokies® With Bacon

This is FANTASTIC. The last time I made these, I wrapped the sausages in bacon and covered them with the brown sugar eary in the morning the day I was serving them. I covered them in foil and put them in the fridge so that I could pull them out and bake them later that evening.

Excellent recipe!! Took these to a party today, and they were really well received. I wish I could figure out how to keep them perfectly round through the baking process. Mine looked like little haystacks. But it sure didn't hinder the taste or texture. Thanks for the great recipe!!

Blue Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I was kind of bored with this cheeseball. It is different than other cheeseballs, but the blue cheese was the overwhelming flavor. I prefer something with more depth. Tabasco helped, but overall, it was still pretty blah. Maybe I'm just tired of cheeseball in general.

Salmon with Caramelized Leeks

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
I am so glad I found this recipe because I've always wanted to learn more ways to incorporate leeks into our meals. This is such an easy and tasty way! The leeks were oh so tender and if it weren't for this recipe I would have never known how to do that. Mine always end up gritty, but not now! Thanks, I'll use this method often.

Easy Cheese Ball II

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
The people complaining of the cheese ball being too salty probably did one of two things.....bought the dip mix instead of the DRESSING mix or used less han 16 oz of cream cheese. I just made it accorsing to instructions (plus added green onions) and it is perfect. There is no way that you can say this cheese ball is salty if you followed the recipe.

JIF® Irresistible Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
These were AWESOME! I love how they didn't flatten out to become hard little peanut butter disks. :) They hold their shape well without the typical flattening that occurs with baking peanut butter cookies. They can be made a big or small as you want just by adjusting the amount you spoon and how far you press it. Definite make agin item!
