Cream of Broccoli Soup V

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
I was really pleased with how this turned out. I chopped and simmered the broccoli in chicken stock, and after sauteing a red onion in butter and mixing in the flour, milk, and cream, I just dumped the whole boiling mess of broccoli and stock into the soup pot. I used a swiss/cheddar mixture because that's what I happened to have. Omitting the celery was a mistake - it would have subtly improved the flavor.

Instead of using water for the hand, make either red or green based Kool Aid and fill the glove. This way your hand is spooky colored rather than clear.

Winter Root Vegetables

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This recipe is very tasty, but I'm giving it the fifth star because it's very forgiving. I made this the first couple of times only omitting the parsnips (they taste like carrots anyways, imo) and it was a big hit. I made this a few nights ago and instead of the turnips and parsnips, I added a raw carnival squash instead, cut into chunks. Still tasty!

Honey Baked Chicken II

I am new to cooking, and I found this recipe very easy to follow. This was so delicious and I am going to eat it once every week or two!! I used horseradish mustard because that is all I had. I will not change that because it added to the flavor wonderfully.

Garden Pasta Salad

I hate to give this recipe a 1, but I feel betrayed by the Allrecipes rating system. This is a disaster if you actually follow the recipe. WAY too much dressing. I should have read the other reviews. A good use of summer vegetables otherwise.

Italian Dressing Mix

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
Not bad. I used garlic powder instead of garlic salt and celery seed instead of celery salt. The white vinegar smells very zesty but it tastes fine. I might use a different vinegar next time and maybe olive oil instead of canola.

Swiss Chard with Garbanzo Beans and Fresh Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
This is my new favorite chard recipe. It's fast, easy, and healthy. I used a young leek instead of green onions and minced garlic instead of a shallot, but otherwise followed the recipe. It was a lot more flavorful than I had anticipated.

Sesame Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2008
Tasty and easy. I used sesame oil (probably a little too much) and veggie stock instead of olive oil and chicken stock, and it was tasty yummy. I took the advice of some other reviewers and did not add any garlic. I'm sure garlic would have been good in this recipe, but it would have turned out very differently.

Vietnamese Beef And Lettuce Curry

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2008
Definitely not Vietamese, but pretty good anways, and a good use of a pound of meat and a head of lettuce. I used curry powder instead of cumin, as suggested by other reviewers. I almost omitted the lemon, and I'm glad I didn't. Fish sauce's flavor needs to be covered up by any combination of foods available in my opinion, and the fish sauce mixture turned out to be surprisingly tangy, sweet, and complex.

Beer Brisket

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2008
Very good! The timing and temp were fine. I also followed others advice and used 1-ish teaspoon of pepper. I also added a can of diced tomatoes on top of the brisket before cooking, as I wanted a bit more color! I used a bit more fresh garlic and Dos Equis beer, which has a light smooth flavor. It turned out YUMMY!!

Ok, but because of food allergies I had to use Egg Replacer and plain crumbs. Suspect the original recipe is alot better than my attempt. Loved the way you cooked them in the oven, that will be my technique from now on.

Real New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp

Wow! These were delicious. The only thing I would change next time is to add a little more creole seasoning. I used the recipe for 4 servings with 1 1/2 lb shrimp for extra sauce to dip hush puppies in. I will definately make this again.

Choc-Oat-PB Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2007
I used natural peanut butter, 1/2 cup less sugar than called for, added 2 tbsps extra cocoa, and substituted quinoa flakes for the oats. The results set up great, and were enjoyed by all. Next time I will use less butter, because the bars, came out a tad on the greasy side. No bake in bar form is definitely the way to go.
